Old enough to know better
PROJECT CLOSED. SOLD ON IN 2014 TO A MATEY ON EBAY, CAR'S IN WOLVERHAMPTON NOW.

H reg Chamade with 66k miles. No ABS and nearly rust free! I went up to Carlisle on the train, 5 hours total journey, and the seller (Chris) kindly picked me up at the station. We did the deal and i drove back (6.5 hours total journey) to Farnham.

Decorated with gold stickers and light blue sun visors emblazoned "Williams", Powerflow full length stainless exhaust and an after market air filter, a lovely condition low mileage example. The old MOT's go back to 42k miles in 2008 .

the to do list/ known issues:

Remove the sun visors, Williams door stickers and gold pin striping
lose the gold wheels, completely remove all traces of the gold
rear door locks not working on central
sunroof won't slide back
dash light for sidelights out
vertical seal on the rear quarter windows are blown
put a standard air box in
put a standard exhaust on
upper heat shield missing
cam cover needs painting
phase 2 steering wheel centre (bit with logo)
Clear lenses on indicators and the side repeaters

I now understand about the Chamades handling nicer than hatchbacks.

Here's the pics from the advert:

[BREAK=New Page]
05/06/2013

Had this 4 months now. Done 2k miles. Had a road trip to Tiverton in Dorset with a car full of passengers and no probs. It is a lovely car to drive. Goldie is going to have to be renamed, the gold is going.

i435.photobucket.com_albums_qq72_jrlno1_IMG_02611_zpsaa0a156f.webp

I swapped the gold alloys for some newly refurbished dark grey/ silver ones with new tyres, that are too big. Found Koni shocks on the back end

Better i think than the gold.

Time for change...

i435.photobucket.com_albums_qq72_jrlno1_B4680FE5_zpsbaf616a0.webp

the gold was a little pretentious and overdue removal

i435.photobucket.com_albums_qq72_jrlno1_64D04295_zps91b2a639.webp

That's a Williams Fererro Rocher made out of all the stickers on the car! They left behind a horrible tacky residue that could prove hard to shift.

[BREAK=indicator lenses]
16/06/13

Saw some smoked bulb covers going for a fiver so thought i'd try them out. I have spare orange ones from the cabriolet so i will give them a try sometime. Interestingly the box lists Lotus eclipse as a compatible vehicle.

I think the silver surround will look better in black or blue.

The car has stood for a while. Its on just over 69,000. I want to eek out the miles to make 70,000 a long way away. FCS is probably the last journey she'll make in 2013.

i435.photobucket.com_albums_qq72_jrlno1_Goldie_IMG_02041_zpse1377a0b.webp

In other news I have some caps for the wheels being painted and a spare bonnet badge getting a lick of tungsten grey too...

Update 21.06.2013

Got some orange lenses out the garage that were on the cabby & stuck them on the Chamade. Looks better than clear on a blue car, cabby the clear lenses as its white.

Also now have a full set of steel wheels to refurb. Some vintage tyres on these! Pirelli P4000 / Eagle NC (no radial grooves!) and NCT and a more modern Michelin Pilot SX

[BREAK=sunroof]
Of my original list I have done the following (in bold) not fast progress but progress none the less:

Remove the sun visors, Williams door stickers and gold pin striping
lose the gold wheels, completely remove all traces of the gold

rear door locks not working on central
sunroof won't slide back
dash light for sidelights out
vertical window rubber on the rear quarters are blown
put a standard air box in
put a standard exhaust on (decided to leave the s/s one on)
upper heat shield missing
cam cover needs painting
steering wheel centre (has a phase 2 one in it)
Change the clear lenses on indicators and the side repeaters to standard

Next on the list, sunroof. Got the infamous card out today. I wonder how long the sunroof hasn't been useable.

2 nuts at the front of the mechanism fell out when the lining was dropped so maybe someone started the job before and gave up.

i435.photobucket.com_albums_qq72_jrlno1_Goldie_IMG_02581_zpsf1fae496.webp

wouldn't be proper without a pic of the roof open!

i435.photobucket.com_albums_qq72_jrlno1_Goldie_IMG_02571_zpsac2ebfbe.webp

I gave the lining a clean with some 1001 upholstery cleaner that i foamed up in the blender. It could take a while to dry with the thunder storm that has just arrived.

Also had the rear door cards off as the central locking doesn't work in the back. Took the motors out and sprayed some oil in, worked them a bit and put it back together. No pics as it really isnt worth it. All works of the key fob now, which is nice.

I got some wind deflectors delivered and put them on. Not sure if they make any difference though. The passenger side motor has died due to the extra strain of pushing past the deflector so i've got to replace that now.

After all the talk of yellow covers/ bulbs etc i decided to give them a try but i am not convinced, it stands out too much when driving.

26th July 2013
As i mentioned the passenger window regulator stopped working after fitting the wind deflectors.

Got a new regulator for the front left door. Well 1st i got the 2 door version as i didn't pay enough attention to the detail  Good job i need one for the cabby. On the 2 door version the motor is removable.

i435.photobucket.com_albums_qq72_jrlno1_Goldie_IMG_0269_zpse16be0c4.webp

Got the door card off and removed the old mech. Theres a few differences between them. Main one is the connector is different shape but also the motor points up not horizontal as on the original also 1 less fixing point.

i435.photobucket.com_albums_qq72_jrlno1_Goldie_IMG_0270_zpsba75f56e.webp

i435.photobucket.com_albums_qq72_jrlno1_Goldie_IMG_0276_zps11077de9.webp

The original had been fixed before where it holds the glass the clip had been replace with a jubilee style, making removal a bit more challenging.

So everything on the car works now. Plus with a really good wash it looks great!

So you have a full collection now. A cab, hatch and Chamade. You should post a family photo of them all together.

Looks really good except for the Williams crap!

How did you find it?

Neal
I was scrolling through ebay and there it was, sometimes cars don't come up in a conventional search.

Had a B.I.N so i messaged the seller saying i was his buyer and explained it'd be in good company ;)

since getting goldie i've done just over 400 miles and i have 2 gallons left! This is the most economical car out of the three by miles

Why does everyone always fit clear side repeaters and indicators?

It's a retro French car - you should not only leave the orange indicators and side repeaters, but you should also put yellow bulb caps in the headlights!

can you even get hold of those yellow caps i just buy yellow bulbs, or in the case of my xenons on the clio 3000k bulbs

Yeah I bought a couple from Germany, under a tenner all in.

Schakal was selling them for a while too, for about £16 or something.

To be fair though, it is a cracker! Surely seeing 19 16v's go for decent wonga is something we've all wanted to see for a long time?

That's where I got mine from. I dont think you can get them for H1s as there's no round base bit for them to clip onto.
