Going Japanese - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IV

293 BHP with exhaust baffle fitted and 337 BHP without the baffle.

Mine has the Evo VII engine in it which standard is 276 BHP, So not too bad considering.
I could get a lot more power out of it but it already does just under 170 MPH and thats quick enough for the mo, plus I really want the Maxi on the road sometime this year so the Evo can wait a while before it gets some more power lol

insurance for me is £600 a year fully comp (£25 legal cover fee included) on a 5000 mile limited mileage policy, 4 years NCB and 4 points on my license (speeding)

Nope 4 points, was over 100 mph on the A14, tbh I was lucky to get 4 points as usually anything over 100mph is a ban which funnily enough will be 4 years ago in 2 days time.
Date of Offence = 4th Feb 2005 soo oooooooooooooh I have a clean License in TWO DAYS!

(points for speeding only stay on a license for 4 years from the Date of Offence, not date of conviction)

I am building the Maxi because I love Renault 19s, The Maxi (when finished) will be the only one of its kind in the world (because the original two have both been written off and are in very small pieces somewhere in France)
What is a 19 Maxi??? I don't understand about the 2 in bits in France??? Ones you've customised???

The 19 Maxi is not an official Renault car, The first one was built by Eddie LEMAITRE for the purpose of rallying, the Maxi Megane was currently in production by Renault Sport but for a private enterant buying a Maxi Megane was out of the question, so He modified a Renault 19 16S for the purpose and it proved very succesful and won several events, then sadly it was involved in an accident and written off, Eddie then built a second 19 Maxi which went on to win the Suisse Normande Rally 2007 and Eddie continued to race it until early 2008 when it too got written off, Eddie now races a Clio R3.
Nothing exists of the original 19 Maxi, the second is now a rusty shell that has had anything of value reused on the Clio R3.

A picture of the original 19 maxi was posted on this forum about 5 years ago and from the way the photo had been shot, it looked like a radio controlled model, but I did some investigation work and found out about the cars and am now building one myself.

There is some video of the original 19 maxis in action here and some pics of it here

new clutch and flywheel has arrived for the evo.
Lightened and balanced competion flywheel with matching clutch kit, its the larger clutch for the later 6 speed Evos (8 and 9) but as i am changing the flywheel there are no fitting issues :)

old one being fecked was a major contributory factor!

Larger clutch plate area has a few benefits and the lighter flywheel has obvious benefits.

flywheel was £300.

As Chris said, the old clutch was fecked, was starting to slip big time so as a new clutch kit would be required anyway and the original flywheel would need skimming, made sense to me to sort it all out clutch wise whilst the gearbox was out with power upgrades to the engine in future in mind.
Also got some new flywheel bolts arrived today :)

not from the engine but from the transmission, less weight for the crank to turn.
Also on the evo there is a balance shaft which helps reduce engine vibration being transmitted through the car, there is a kit which removes the balance shaft also freeing up some extra power as the engine does not have to drive this device.

Yeah, I appreciate there will be a performance increase, I was just facetiously pointing out that a weight reduction (either static or dynamic) does not increase the power output ;)

The Lancias (Deltas etc) also had the counter rotating balancer shafts, many would lock them off to grab back a little bit of power.
