Megane Glacier White Megane 250

Covered around 100 miles over the last few days and things seem okay. I've been taking it easy overall with a few 2nd and 3rd pulls here and there.

Popped up to see a mate who's just picked up a nice spec RB 200.

I've raised the front coilovers a bit and removed the driveshaft spacers that were fitted. From what I've read, they're not required unless running the car really low. Need to raise the rears and get it booked in for geometry next.

Minor update. The trim surrounding the heater controls and stereo were damaged by something being stuck on by a previous owner, so managed to get a nice condition trim on Ebay and swapped it out.

Also took the rear springs out, cleaned up the adjustable seats and raised the ride height to match the front.

Cleaned and coated the glass with Gtechniq G1 today, hoping for good results.

Garage content rather than megane.

Having flattened an old shed in the back garden, all the sh!te from it has been displaced into the garage. So over the last few months, I've been sifting through everything and either ditching or selling on gumtree.

Using a solid man maths formula and the cash raised from the clear out, I decided I'd replace my old top chest for a roll cab. Idea being, to have more tool storage and more worktop space. Umm'd and ahh'd over different boxes. Second hand Snap on, Clarke HD Plus, SGS 42" or the SGS 55" Stainless one.

Plenty of decent reviews online, lots of different companies selling it with a different badge. I'm really impressed with it for the cash, drawers feel good especially with a bit of weight in them.

And because I'm a throbber, I ordered some shadowfoam for 4 of the drawers. Started trimming one last night.... its quite fiddly. Not sure how I feel about it.

Having a good sort through as I'm filling the new box. I've accumulated some amount of rubbish over the years, think I've turned into some kind of hoarder. Came across an open sachet of ARP stud grease from a GTR build 10 years ago!

Since building the car back up, I've had the feeling something is a bit loose. Car has been tracking straight in general but been a handful under WOT, dragging me around a bit. Also giving off a horrendous screech when turning the steering whilst stationary.

After jacking it up yesterday, the nearside lower balljoint has lots of play in it. So I've bit the bullet and ordered four new ones from the chap on the forum offering "heavy duty" ones.

Hopefully have them next week.

Ball joints arrived from Croatia, took a while to arrive but they are really nice quality.

The car is now untaxed and out of MOT, so figured I'd better get on with it.

Drivers side went to plan, although they are proper awkward things to fit in a press.

Passenger side bottom balljoint bracket, the bolt that pinches onto the lower hub balljoint was non OE and was rotten. Had to grind the head off and drill it out. I managed to clear the original threads and get a tap down to clean it up. However, when I ran a new M8 bolt down it, there was far too much clearance. Wouldn't have passed a go/nogo.

Drilled the threads out and fitted a cap head bolt and a nyloc nut. Plenty of space for it and doesn't foul anything. Not ideal, but I wasn't left with much of an option.

Got a new battery module to fit as the current one has failed and there is a temp link placed between terminals. Also got some Millers Nanotech CFS to try out.

Hate them hubs with a passion after fitting bc’s on the mrs old 250.

Pinch bolt always rounds off. Drill out and cap head is the usual solution, will be sound.

The shitty OE pinch bolt usually comes out if you weld a nut on the top, why the hell they used a small allen head on something like that I don't know!

The bottom swivel hub balljoints I always heat them up super hot, the balljoint just drops in to ablut halfway then. Last one I didn't heat it cracked the hub when I pressed it in :(

I'm starting a new job this month, and there is quite a commute involved. So the plan was to get a hold of a little diesel and have the megane as a bit of a good weather/garage queen.

Picked up a little 62 plate Yaris D4-D in old lady blue. Its actually a nice wee thing to knock about in. I'm hoping it'll do some serious mpg when asked.

Megane is tucked away for the winter. Roll on the better weather.

Been a grim week on the vehicle front. Reliable pensioner chariot shat the clutch on Monday night on my road home from work, friction plate in bits. Luckily Arnie Clark recovered the car and footed the bill.

<12 hours later, taking the Mrs Leon to work, hit ice and bashed into a kerb resulting in a bent tie rod.

On the plus side, I've ordered a RS Monitor for the Megane since it was the only option it was missing. Hopefully arrive this week.
