Getting around drivebywire

Hi Guys.

A couple of you may have seen I'm planning on putting a Clio V6 into a Peugeot 309 which currently has a 406 V6 in place. I have my head around all parts of the conversion except the drivebywire throttle the Clio has.

Now my question is how to get around this, different throttle body (from where, don't want it to restrict the engine) or is there a way of retro fitting the entire drivebywire system into a 309 which would include the peddle from a different car, it will be running aftermarket management so running it should not be too much of a problem.

One would assume there is no simple way of converting to cable with the OEM parts.

Looking forward to your suggestions!

Many thanks, Ali [smilie=thanks.gif]

What after market management are you running. Some now come with fly by wire capability. I know the Emerald K6 was soon to ave it. Go to the AT Power website. They have loads of options for both fly by wire and cable operated.

Undecided on the management at current, one that runs 6 cylinders and drivebywire though!

Its not the management I'm worried about really, what about the actual physical peddle!?

I wouldn't bother with the fly by wire to be honest mate. Theres no real need for it in my opinion and its just something else between you and the engine.

If you do want to have fly by wire, the clio v6 still uses a cable operated pedal but the cable is only about 500mm long and goes into a motor which I presume the ecu uses as a tps and tells the engine in the back where the butterfly should be sitting. Maybe if you try and get one of those units youll be halfway there? Like I say though, just ditch it and keep it simple with a normal tps setup.

Thanks for that, handy to know they run a short cable, I'm sure retro fitting that setup will not be too much of a issue.

How is it possible too ditch that setup? You can;t run a cable into a drivebywire throttle body.

This is true but its very simple to fit a non "fbw" throttle body of the same size or bigger. Obviously once you fit standalone you will only require a tps to get it running as it should. One thing I was surprised about when fitting the 406 lump to the 205 was how simple it was to reuse the engines ecu and wiring harness.

Actually only the ph1 runs the short cable Brett mentioned. The ph2 pedal is an all in one part. If you're going for an aftermarket management with DBW capabilities it should be able to deal with just about any throttlebody/pedal combination because most of them are the same or at least very similar to each other when it comes to the electric part. If you want to use a cable then you can use any cable TB that mechanically fits and has a TPS on it.

Edit: Whith the OEM ECU the whole thing might become a bit tricky because you can't randomly exchange parts. The throttle is a very safety relevant system and the ECU allows pretty much zero tolerance.

I'm not wanting to change the throttle body (just yet) Unless there is a off the shelf alternative without modification to the inlet. Otherwise it looks like I maybe using the ph1 set up to retain my pedal rather than the chunky Renault item!

So I just came across this image from the TRW project,

Looks like fitting the accelerator pedal will be a piece of cake!
