General Opinion of Viper Induction Kits

Hi Guys,

I'm interested to find out what everyone's general opinion of the Viper induction kit is? I.e, the noise / difference in engine note, etc.

Possibly some thoughts of it coupled with a QS Sports?

MossyV6 was kind enough to give me a standing demo at Donnington but I'm interested as to the noise when really pushing it thoughout the rev range. I've heard various clips on youtube but still find it hard to figure out what it really, really sounds like!!

Do you get a kind of constant hissing if cruising at 3500rpm for example? Or do you only really notice the noise difference when pushing it up the top end?

Sorry for the insanely large post!!

Many thanks,

Phil.

I can honestly say i do not really know what all the fuss is about. I fitted mine a while ago, and i can only sometimes hear a slight whistle at certain revs. Maybe my Ktec exhaust drowns it out a bit, or maybe it sounds a lot better outside the car.

There was certainly no significant performance gains. Part of the enjoyment for me however, was fitting it. I am no mechanic so its a relatively simple job to do that gets you in the engine bay for an hour or two and seeing the nice shiny kit installed made me feel very pleased with myself. :D

Not noticed anything from mine, and the exhaust drowns out everything. I think it was only fitted because the standard air box would no longet fit.

If I had a spanner I would make mine fit a bit better.

on my mk1....it gargled and sucked at low revs...building up until over 5000rpm when it simply screamed!! it was very very loud indeed...even with both K-tec and QS OMG backboxes on...the top end scream was insane!!

plus you get the nice subtle hissing noise when driving on very light throttle openings! :approve: :approve:

are you sure you guys have the feed running right into the vent??

I'm getting mine fitted over the weekend with the standard exhaust - thought I'd give that a go like that first to see the noise first rather than going all out with both a new air filter and exhaust. Will let you know what it's like.

Cool cheers!

I'm getting mine fitted on Monday (hopefully) along with my QS Sports system and some new performance pads :D

That would be great if you could let me know how you like it by the end of the weekend!

Cheers,
Phil.

Just fitted the Pipercross system to a PH2 V6 for a customer and a full Janspeed system with sports CAT's and then Superchipped. The manifolds were also heat wrapped with DEI bandage and DEI silicone sealant spray (VHT paint).

The BHP is not much more according to the digital rolling road than standard (a real 250BHP calculated correctly and not as Renault do), but the response etc. is great with great instant response. I think the Denso IQH20 iridium plugs helped as well.

The Denso plugs are far better than the original fit and less cost if you buy them from Sparkplugs.co.uk

OK well I took a trip over to Martins and he helped me fit it along with Jainy (thanks very much for the help).

So my setup is Viper kit and standard exhaust.

There's not much difference in sound when you are just revving and it's not under load, but when under load there's quite a big difference in sound. Sounds a little 'gruffer' and a bit deeper and instantly put a smile on my face. The biggest difference is when the passenger window is open (everyone says this is a difference but I didn't think it would be that noticeable - but there really is). You can hear all sorts of sounds going on (a grunty sucking sound  ) with the window open.

Performance wise, maybe slightly more responsive, but nothing that noticeable.

Well worth the money though I think.

Just wondering if I still need a QS Sport or if I'm OK as I am?!?!?

:s im reaching the conclusion that these make more effect on the mk1's???

mine was seriously loud on my old one!!

Fitted mine last week and I would widely agree with itz_baseline. It is very noticeable under load around 3 to 4K. 3rd gear sounds spectacular! Not noticed a huge improvement in performance but it is most definitely a lot smoother. I don't whether the standard air filter was very dirty or just restrictive, but the car was quite jerky especially when cold. Since fitting the Piper it simply doesn't do that anymore so I am well pleased with mine.

I'm very happy with mine, although I do find it hard to tell which noise it actually is as the QS Sports backbox is very noisy!!

Hello mate , it makes a huge diffrence , your only in brighton and im only in burgess hill if you like you can come round for a full demmo.

I've compared mine with standard and defo makes a difference noise wise above 3k onwards.

One question - I saw in a magazine an advert for Piper X Air Filter oil - has anyone heard of this / know what its for and is there any maintenance required for these filters e.g. cleaning every six months, washable etc?

I ask cos my car came with the filter on so I didn't buy it from new with instructions

The filter comes with a spray oil, so it is likely that it was oiled when originally fitted. Not sure about the interval for re-oiling - I'm sure someone on here can throw some light on it.

Chris

K-Tec put some sort of oil in the "boot" of my Vee after they'd done it, so I'll be interested to find out what to do with it.

Because I got my Viper + QS at the same time, I can't really tell which engine note is being given off by the kit! I guess I can't really tell cos the QS really goes some!

hey thanks guys and if you find out what the oil is for and when then let us know!

I think my filter will get polluted quickly here cos the air is really bad in Hong Kong, but at least its stays 22c in winter - my UK friends said its been 9/10c there and raining!

Fitted mine. Annoyin sqeak, but i'll sort that no bother.

What a noise! - It' BARKS now! lol Different from inital start up to high rev's!
