gearbox

hi all,

just had my gearbox replaced under warranty, got it back on monday and had a nosey at it when i got home. despite the gearbox being all nice, new and shiny ive got it into my head that it 'looks' different than the old 'box. :s

So a few questions...Has there been a revision to the gearbox during the mk2's production run, or indeed since production? Could they have shoved on a mk1's gearbox and not let on? is there a specific number for the mk2 gearbox and i could have a look to confirm it on mine? and probably more important...

Am i being paranoid and thinking too much? [smilie=hide.gif]

well cant say ive noticed much difference, but havnt exactly give it a run it. just done a few miles back from the dealers to the house.

but really have convinced myself that it at least looks different. there is a bolt hole clearly visable at the top of the 'box with nothing connected to it when looking down through the engine bay that ive never noticed, at least on the old gearbox. And i did have all the covers off and a good nosey a few weeks ago to give the bay a good cleaning.

i see, i see. Prob all in my head as ive suspected.

But i will post a pic up, as im just curious as to the unused bolt hole

havnt got the pic yet, but will as soon as my camera decides it likes living again.

Other than that the clio is going back into the dealers on wednesday for 4 reasons,

1. since getting it back the car has felt massively out of alignment, basically like the front and back are steering at there own discretion although its not to bad in a straight line, was gonna resolve this my self, but decided that the dealers should have done this after fitting the gearbox
2. I had a further nosey at the box this time from inside the front of the car, and there was a braided tube with a clear plastic end on it basically just sitting on top of the new 'box in amongst the other various hoses which was not connected to anything! would i be right in thinking this was a breather pipe? I plugged it back in the hole where it obviously fitted.
3. since having it back, there has been a knocking noise from the back, thinking something loose, and after reading a few topics here, possibly subframe or suspension component whilst the 'box was out
4. not gearbox job related but my headlights dont self level on switching them on, i take it they should move up and down a little when turned on? they have never done it in my ownership, but just picked this up by reading another thread.

must say in my 15 months of ownership, it has had 4 coils replaced, new clocks fitted, new belts and tensioners etc fitted, a new gearbox installed and its going in again on wednesday for the above work. This is all under warranty which is up in august and i have to say im very nervous about owning it after that point! [smilie=hide.gif] But....

i love the dam thing, lol

(perhaps this topic should be moved to problems area :approve: )

Was definately the breather pipe then, i suppose having it sat on top of the gearbox rather than connected to it means the chances of it working are maybe a little remote [smilie=doubt.gif]

So basically i was driving around with an open hole straight into the 'box, checked around it for any signs of oil that may have come out...seems pretty dry and clean, just hope no dirt has got in :( and ill have them check the oil level in it tomorrow when its in
