Gearbox........

Just been out to the garage to move the car back so I can start to strip the front down to fit new fans & a front mount (when I finally decide what to go for)...anyway once the car was moved I noticed an oil slick where the car was parked....gearbox oil & shed loads of it - dinner plate size...:-(
I jacked up the car & had a look....nothing obvious...:-(
Now I'm no mechanic (as some will already know) & I'm looking for a member who will take my car in the new year & not just sort the leak but also sort the "notchy" feel to the gearchange....
I've been a member a long time & have had many 21's but I've never had one that pissed oil out of its box all the time...
My local garage couldn't find anything obvious either so hopefully we have a UN1 specialist within our midsts...
Look forward to your endless offers of help....:-)
Of course a reward will be paid....???

It'll be either the driveshaft seals or the primary shaft seal.

I can take it out and get it rebuilt, but the rebuild will cost you ?350 for all seals and bearings and the casing refurbed like Atkins' one was, plus the cost of me getting it out and in again. A rebuild by Stu Harding may cost a bit less, although I have a lot further to get it to and from him.
I guess what im saying is, for a proper job, full strip and rebuild you wont see much back from ?500.....although bear in mind a non-rebuilt second hander still commands ?150 minimum, and then you still have to pay for fitting.

Then you have to ask yourself....while we're in there, a new clutch would make sense (assuming its not been done recently).....and so on.

Thanks Dave....it's had a recent box & new clutch fitted, but Daz didn't say who'd actually done the work....
Now, as I intend to keep this one as it shifts I think I'll pay the money & have mine rebuilt...how long would you want the car for - bearing in mind it won't be until early next year that I'd need it done...

By the way, where does the infamous Stu Harding live....??

How long depends on weather, how busy I am and all that kinda crap. Over winter, likely a few weeks, maybe even a couple of months (after I finish Swannie's car that is).
Stu- don't matter as he's out the picture now after speaking to him today, hopefully only temporarily but maybe for quite while!

OK...pencil me in for the some TLC once you're finished with Swannie's car (is that the white one....did he not sell it...??) unless of course i've managed to sort something myself down south........
As you know i don't use the car much as i have my daily smoker......so upto a month is cool as long as it's fixed.....
Thanks..

What's up with stu?

Nothing, he's just busy, without going into detail.

Will do matey. Swannie is selling/has sold the white one but has another white one to replace it. I'm trying to turn it back into a car from the wreck that it is lol.
