Gearbox change on my 172 sport

Hi Guys,

need some info ,have a 51 plate mk3 172 sport,fitted a 182 gearbox off a 55 plate, speedo not working.should have checked but did the old gearbox have the relay onit for the speedo.The new one not as its teamed up with the abs on the later cars,going to spend the morra sorting,if the old one was on the gearbox and the new one teamed with the abs,what can i do to get it working?easiest solution?...please help,cheers mark.

get the correct gearbox is the only solution.

The speedo is driven off the crownwheel on the older boxes then the speedo sensor slots into another gear and is driven from that. The newer boxes have neither the hole or the gear on the crownwheel.

However some of the changeover era boxes (on meganes anyway) sometimes have a blank in place so you may be lucky but don't count on it.

tbh can is old news now anyway, flex ray 2 is much better
