Drive gates are top of the list mate might buy the gear tomorrow. Going to knock up a nice set of framed ledged and braced heavy duty gates. Wish i still had access to the woodworking machines in the joiners shop would have them rattled off easy

One set is enough Made a few hunderd pairs of garage doors in my time. Its a ballache without all the woodworking machines

Knocked up a set of framed, braced & ledged drive gates. All mortice and tenon cut by hand & rebates/moulds done with a router as i do not have access to any woodworking machines. Glued tenons cramped together with a sash cramp & alloy dowels to hold the tenons tight in the mortice. The framework is tanalized treated timber, had to use softwood 5/8" matchboard as no where seems to sell treated for a reasonable price. Treated every piece of bare timber with 3x coats wood preservative so should last a few years.

A long job using hand tools compared to when i was on the bench with access to all the machinery so took 2.5 days in total steady away.

Total cost £180 in timber - cheaper than the screw together shite gates that everybody seems to sell these days. I priced up a bespoke set to the same design and looking at £600+ sod that get them on next week when the heavy duty crook & band hinges turn up

Had a spare couple of hours this weekend so got the gates fitted. Nice and private now nothing to see here

The eagle eyed of you lot might have noticed that we have no pillar cap fitted to our new wall. We wanted one to match the original fitted to the pillar between ours and next door but its very hard to find a similar one new now, looked all over to no avail.

Noticed a few streets away that one identical was dumped on the grass verge out the front of a house, looked to have been taken off due to a new wall. Give them a knock and asked them if it was for sale and the old bloke said i could have it - result ! He said it had been left on the grass to stop cars parking. Give him a drink for it as it has saved us a fair whack of money should look fine with a good coat of sandtex masonry grey paint.

Render going on should be done by the end of the week..must get doors ordered asap. Nearly ready for building control signoff. Have also started doing a couple of jobs to the garden - 30mtrs of fencing to do soon

Had a few spare hours this weekend so done a coat of stabiliser & first coat of sandtex dark stone, weather depending will be second coated next week. 2x gliderol roller doors on order finally so just need to get the sparky booked to install the electrics. Soon be time to get building control round for sign off.
In other news just had the roof done. The original slates were slipping quite often and caused a couple of leaks so needed to be done. Original roof done ok 85 years old, new one should last us out hopefully. Next door got their roof done at the same time so no joint, dry ridge/dry verge so should be fairly maintenance free. Also got the pillar cap fitted finally.

Masonry painted. Sparkie booked to sort cctv on house, garage alarm and lights etc. Had a provisional date for doors to be delivered next week the question is can i get it all done before @DaveL485 is done

Doors are on. Mounted the brackets with chemi & studs. Not used chemi for 15 years and forgot how good it is, sets like concrete. I think you would pull the block off the wall before the stud pulls out. Looks grand now really pleased. Power in soon

Chemi studs fitted. Absolutely solid beats any rawl/thunderbolt. Years ago you could only get it in the bigger cartridges and needed a special gun to use them however now you can get them in mastic gun size which makes life easier for small jobs like this
