Description

Renault : IMMACULATE RENAULT 19 16v PHASE 2 - EXECUTIVE 3 DOOR

1994/L Renault 19 16V Phase II 3-door Executive: Gleaming and comparatively rare Brooklands Green Metallic with optional black sports leather upholstery.

I have always hankered after a 19 16V ever since they were launched in late 1990. I remember reading an old group test in Car magazine which pitted the 19 against the king of hot hatches, the VW Golf GTI Mk2 16V and the recently launched Rover 216 GTI 16V Twin Cam, it was the zingy and charismatic 19 16V that was declared the top of the tree mainly because it was quite simply that the 19 felt more sporting more of the time.

Should circumstances allow, this sporty Renault is capable of 132 MPH and will cover 0-60 in just 7.7 seconds. This is made all the better by the excellent fuel economy. I have been averaging an excellent 37MPG during a mixture of town and motorway driving.

This is not your usual molested and abused 19, rather one of the best and most original remaining examples. It has a FSH which is full Renault main dealer history up to 80,000 miles and specialist thereafter. For the first five years it was an Avis fleet car supplied to the Whitbread company in London and was serviced regardless of cost at main dealers - by the end of 1998 a total of 5000 pounds had been spent on its upkeep. It then went to a lady owner in Sutton Coldfield who kept it for three years before passing to the previous owner in 2001 who held on to the car for almost a decade. This car has not been in the hands of a spotty boy-racer and having covered just 120,000 miles, has many more years left in her yet.

I purchased this wonderful example last year, following much recent expenditure to bring it up to an exemplary standard.

My original intention was to use her as my everyday vehicle and hold on to her for a considerable number of years, but an impending company car forces sale. Given it's provenance, condition, relative rarity and the fact that prices are set to rise, I saw it as a sound investment and viewed it as a fun, practical and inexpensive alternative to the dull, modern Euro box equivalents for sale elsewhere.

It has had nearly 1500 spent on it in the last six months or so and is the very best example available for sale today. Do not sink money in to inferior specimens that require a great deal of time and expense. This is a false economy and will cost you dearly in the long-run. You cannot 'buy back' history. This is one for the modern classic Renault aficionado.

Sensible mileage, low owners, fully stamped up service history (super rare for one of these), MoT certificates for the past 12 years, full itemised print out of work carried out and costs whilst being a fleet car to 1998 and invoices thereafter. HPI clear with certificate. Complete owner's wallet with owner's manual, stereo manual, stamped original service book, original security window etching pouch, two full sets of keys - so both with a remote master key, immobiliser key and original Renault RAPS alarm key. Unused jack and tools and original Renault Philips radio cassette stereo with controls on the steering column and original Renault Elf Lubricants decal in rear window.

This car is even nicer in my book by virtue of it being effectively the last of the line 'Executive' model but without the dowdy 5-door bodyshell or the ugly airbag steering wheel. The Brooklands Green colour is both eye-catching and classy and was only available for the last full year of R19 16V production, and is quite rare indeed on a 3-door car as most were 5-door genuine Executive models.

Standard 16V Equipment: Power-steering, twin headlamps, front foglights, front and rear colour-keyed spoilers, side skirts and bonnet vent, tinted glass, electric front windows, remote control central locking, sports seats (adjustable lumbar and height for driver's), sports leather steering wheel and gear knob, alloy wheels, uprated suspension, disc brakes all round, electric tilt/slide glass sunroof with blind, electric mirrors, original 6-speaker Philips digital stereo with remote control stalk.

Extra-Cost Equipment: Leather upholstery and rear head restraints, ABS, metallic paintwork, multi-function trip computer. A Thatcham Cat II immobiliser with installation certificate is also fitted and fully functional.

This car is as it left the factory, no lowered suspension, no performance exhaust or air filters, no speakers holes cut into the parcel shelf - and following a recent, sympathetic exterior overhaul it simply looks almost as smart as it would have at a few years old.

The car starts on the button, idles smoothly, no hunting nor faltering, no smoking or overheating woes whatsoever, ABS light and catalyst lights illuminate and extinguish as they should do, very quiet engine - not tappetty as they often are, and crucially the gearbox is beautifully tight and precise with no whining or droning - no jumping out of gears - the gearboxes can be a weakpoint on these, not so with my cherished and carefully driven car.

It has had a full engine service carried out including new Bosch spark plugs and ignition leads. This car does not have the crusty and rotten rear arches that lesser examples are invariably dogged with. This is NOT a project car, it needs no improvement or fettling.

The exterior looks very smart indeed and this car was not the usual scabby mess to begin with. The rear arches and front wings etc are all free from unsightly blisters, no bumper scuffs, no dents or scrapes, just a high lustre and uniform paint finish and colour all round. The interior is immaculate and totally original, no extra bits, no missing bits - utterly belies the car's age and mileage.

She uses no water and oil and holds excellent oil pressure. There are no leaks and all electrical/mechanical items work as they should. I saw that any faults were rectified as above. Every gauge is at the correct level and no warning lamps illuminate after start-up.

If like I did, you want one of the smartest, most original and nicest to drive remaining 19 16V's then my car would be hard to better. If you're not a 19 fanatic but want a dynamic, wonderfully handling, always sporting but refined, practical and frugal with it distinctive mid-sized hot hatch but do not want to pay 3000+ for a Golf Mk2 GTI 16V, 205 GTI 1.9 or Clio Williams in comparable condition and with this impeccable provenance - then my 19 16V is worth considering.

Recent work:
1) Two new genuine wheel centre caps
2) Replace ageing P6000s with brand new highly recommended Toyo Proxes 195/50/VR15 tyres all round - plus laser tracking
3) Rust-free replacement bonnet sourced (original rusted front centre - common 19 malady) - extensive professional bodywork to fit and paint replacement bonnet, front wings to match, offside due to parking dings, rear spoiler due to lacquer craze etc.
4) Engine service, Forte Engine Flush Treatment, Shell Helix oil, Bosch spark plugs and HT leads, air filter, exhaust hangers, exhaust gasket, NSF brake flexi hose etc.
5) Brand new genuine Renault exterior door window scraper trims (original bubbled and detracted too much with the new super shiny paintwork) at much expense!)
6) Replace NS central locking actuator
7) New number plates (originals retained in boot but old and tatty)
8) MoT
9) Thorough valet & Autoglym
10) Original R19 16V brochure
11) Tailored mats
12) Fuel pump & sender (in-tank)
13) Set of wheel bolts
14) D/S window motor & regulator
15) Replacement wiper stalk with trip computer function
16) Replacement roof aerial
17) To JKE Engineering, Sandy (10/11/10) for full inspection, top-up of all levels, new rear brake pads, fitment of window regulator, expensive 'in tank' fuel pump change, window wiper switch, new wheel bolts, fitment of new aerial, new exhaust gasket etc.
18) New battery with two year guarantee (20/12/10)

Summary
Please do not miss this opportunity to purchase this superb Renault 19 3-door 16V . It represents superb value for money and I am convinced you will not find anyone near as good for less.

I am meticulous about my vehicles and become very much attached to them. She needs a loving home and I very much hope she finds a discerning enthusiast to carry on the care to which she has become accustomed.
I am an honest, genuine private seller. It is impossible to cover every aspect of the car but I have tried to give as full a description as possible. It is not a brand new vehicle commanding a huge premium and I cannot account for every tiny imperfection it may have. That said, I'm convinced you will be more than pleased.

I am not open to silly offers and will, if necessary, hold out for the right buyer. This is not to be compared to the cheap, tatty, inferior examples for sale elsewhere.

Asking £1,950 or nearest offer. Would really want it to go to an fellow Renault enthusiast that will keep it standard and maintain it in its present, unmolested condition.

We discussed this on the thread the last time this car was for sale, and as the new owner has simply cut and pasted the description the old owner used, the same thing applies.

It's poorly worded, but he's not actually saying that it is an executive.

what about the first line where he calls it a renault 19 16V executive?

Also the extra cost trip comp - nope.
