Description

1983 ‘Y’ Renault 18 GTX 2.0 8v (J6R engine) in a custom silver. 149,861 miles. Renault 11 turbo alloys, electric windows etc

First The Good
Engine and running gear in good condition.
Interior in generally good condition except for a couple of holes in the carpet.
Everything works - as it has only been sitting for a couple of months all the lights, electrics etc still pretty much are all working as they should, but remote locking is a bit slow.
New battery.
No service history but a whole box file of receipts old mots etc – this car has been in the family from virtually new and very well looked after – never revved from cold always garaged and maintained pretty much regardless of cost.

The Bad
Quite a bit of rust from the front bulkhead forward including battery tray, front wings, engine mounts. Also on the door pillars, sill, rear wheelarches and bootlid
Exhaust clip rusted away
Leaking power steering fluid
Rear spring gone
A good few parking dents etc on the body work, also the shut lines are not that good down 1 side as it has been in a few crashes by the previous owner.

Sadly the time has come for it to go. Up until a couple of months ago it was in daily use, but has failed its mot. After much thought I have decided to get something else as I do not really have the time money space or chiefly the technical knowledge to continue with it.

This would be an ideal project for someone who has the space and knowhow to do the work. There is a second identical Renault 18 GTX also available, which I have been using as a donor car. I think it would be quite possible to use the 2 cars to make 1 good one, and up until recently was planning to do this myself. However work commitments and lack of space mean it is just to much for me to take on now.

This is a reluctant sale and I will be sorry to see them go, but that’s the way it goes sometimes. I’m looking for £60ovno or £100ovno for the 2.

Hi thanks for the comments. Yeah I could scrap them but thats a last resort.

Prab - Im near Uckfield in East Sussex but nearest big place is Brighton (about 30 mins away) 2 mechanics looked at it and said rust was the main problem, needs a lot of welding up probably involving the engine out. It would be easier to use the shell of the donor car!
