For £30k Clio V6 or Aston Martin V8 Vantage or what else?

Bizarrely there is no correlation between quality and reliability at Jaguar and Land Rover. Jaguar has been in top 5 of numerous JD Power surveys and Auto Express and warranty surveys for at least 10 years now while LR are normally in the bottom 5. It makes no sense that they can't improve LR

Old mans DB9 never had a problem, never extended warranty, cheaper per year than both the clio's I think. Will double check.

It has an easy life but still not bad.

Just to balance the above, know many others through owners club with same story.

Am I the only one thinking that the production version will have smaller wheels and won't look right... or else, if the prototype wheels make production - the ride will be too harsh?

It's very close to a perfect otherwise.
Needs more colour options and confirmation of tactile paddles (in the absence of a real stick)...

That is the production version at last. revealed today. looks great . love the wheels. Weight might be lower than 1100kg compared to 1400kg of a Cayman. Needs to be no more expensive than the Porker though (£40k to £45k) otherwise its got little chance of continued success past the initial orders.

So the reveal was ahead of Geneva then........and Auto Express mag states the following:

"The Porsche 718 Cayman rival is expected to arrive towards the end of 2017. UK sales will start early next year, with a price tag of around £50,000."

Not sure the pricing is competitive enough to tempt buyers outside of the hardcore Renault/Alpine aficionados.

The Launch Edition will be up to £50k but hopefully that means a standard version nearer £40k as the Cayman starts at £40k but that of course needs loads of options so I doubt one drives out of the showroom for less than £45k so if Alpine can get under that for a comprehensively equipped car then they will sell some. There are more people that DON'T want a Porsche than DO which is why some of the muppets on other forums who instantly jump in and say "No one would buy this instead of a Porsche" are thankfully wrong.

It looks gorgeous, although I wasn't sure at first about the retro looks. But more of a nod to the original I think. What engine will be fitted, and will it accommodate someone who isn't average French size?!

It will probably be like the current MINI in being a third bigger all over than the original. So hopefully yes because even 5'9" struggled to get behind the wheel of the original so I had no chance! Though I've seen a quoted length of 4.18m which is less than a Megane so they have kept it compact to keep the weight down
I'll wait for the roadster which should be fabulous.

I LOVE the original A110 but the driving position is impossible for me!!! Lol My Mk1 Mini on the other hand is a doddle, even at 6ft1. Hell, when I was 18 I even manage to.......

...well, I think the saying goes "Mini people do it in small places" lol

Wednesday's H and H auction had a 2004 Bentley Continental GT with 45,000 miles on and full service history which cost £110,000 new sold for £26k! and a similar GTC sold for £28k. The depreciation effect of a model that is in continuous production and therefore updates make it quickly obsolete? Also 2004/05 Bentley Arnages that cost £175,000 new are also down to £30k ish.
Oh how people would have laughed 10 years ago if you had said your £27,000 Renault would be worth the same amount as these in a decade
btw there was also a Renaultsport Spider which bidding stopped at £21k which was quite good considering 2 sold for only £16k last year but the reserve was £25k (the price at which a couple are for sale at dealers currently) but the market doesn't seem to agree they are worth that much.
