Flat spot and huge flames!!

Have got a problem with the vee today. Was out driving for a good hour or so and towards the end of the outing the car suddenly made 0 power after 5000rpm. Backing off gave the biggest back fires Ive ever seen or heard. Initially I thought it was over fueling but driving it feels the opposite, more like the fuel was being backed nearlly completly off. :s Sounds like my winter just got a heap more expensive

Oh mate sorry to hear that you have just had no luck in your period of ownership gutted for you. Hope its not gonna be an expensive fix.

I had a very similar thing on my old one just after I had the inlet plenum done, i can't remember exactly what it was though, something to do with a little valve that was supposed to open to let fuel pass through it which wasnt opening properly. The symptoms sounded very similar, but it was doing it all the time, it cost a few pounds to fix. It also made warm starts a problem and would often take a while to fire up. Hope it's something as simple!

Im sure its something petty. Only thing is, I've just fully decatted it so I'm hoping its nothing to do with that. I'm sure i'll fire it up next weekend and it'll be fine lol . . . . . . I hope!

Probably wants a new forged crank, H beam rods, forged pistons, a set of oversized Rimflow valves, ported and polished heads, Omex ecu and a full tublar manifold system connected to the Holset HX40 turbo I have sitting on the bench. . . . .

......Might just take a quick look at the fuel pump for now though! lmao

brett, trust me, nothing you could do to the exhaust would cause that or anything like it, you could put the exhaust in the bin and that wouldnt cause it, try, injector stuck open or poor fuel pressure or bust pump, all would give a weak signal (yes weak) as it would affect the cylinder mixtures.
air leaks on the manifold or blackcurrants in the air filter.
if you need it scanning i am around your way in a couple of weeks.

This is what I thought Spike. I just wasn't sure if the ecu was prone to pissing about once the first pair of cats are removed.either way I'm sure its a fueling issue. Makes the car sound like its on a fuel cut rev limiter. Ill start the old girl up tonight anbd see if its the same

Ill give them a miss Spike, thanks all the same. Will get a set made up to suit the motor exactly. Cat's are for girls anyway! Lmao

Bloody thing!!! I'm sure the ol' girl speaks to me when she's had enough. Went out last night and not a single sign of problems. I just hope what ever it was won't show its ugly face again.
