5 GT Turbo fitting clutch

Mark Davis

Brapmaster extraordinaire
Is there any how to guides about for swapping out clutch ? Also is it worth doing anything else whilst fitting ?
Currently not sure if to attempt the clutch change myself or get someone else to do it.

Will be straight back in use although I still have a few more things to sort.

I'm waiting on a set of Gaz coilovers, 3/4 week wait for those unfortunately. I also have a new walbro fuel pump plus a new filter to fit. I am hoping a much better pump will help with AFR's and fuelling in general.

Then finally I need to get ph1 rear arches sprayed and fitted and quite possibly find a front bumper (or salvage mine)

Definitely hoping for a good spring/summers use though.

A bit of an update.

Clutch, flywheel and new clutch cable are all fitted. I'm just waiting on them to finish off the rack, with any luck ill have it back tomorrow.

A few things that need attention;

1) Header tank is starting to melt as its above turbo (need to relocate behind scuttle) always knew this was dodgy.
2) Oil cooler needs fitting properly as it has dug into the rad. Again glad he caught this.
3) Intercooler bracketry needs sorting.
4) Fuel pump bracket needs renewing. (not an issue as new pump here which is a walbro non OE jobby for higher flow so needs custom bracket)

Hopefully i'll have the car back for the weekend.

I use a paddle, but when mine was changed I kept the same pressure plate and also had the extended release fork making it much lighter. If it's the same pressure plate then it should feel the same other than the paddle biting quicker, they want to be quite on off rather than having a gentle ease on feel when starting off in 1st.
As for all the other points that is unbelievable, carelessly leaving oil pipes so loose that it's spraying around under your bonnet is an absolute joke and your well within your right to complain and if you want to take it further try to claim some money back for your time putting it right. Not sure how that will pan out though.

Sorry to hear the problems, hope you have caught everything now!

I removed my last rant mate, lol.
I've been out tonight and resolved it or. I'll get back on it during the weekend.

They had your eyes out by the sounds of it Mark. I would have done the lot in a day for £250. Dont take your car back to garages like that. Plenty of trusted lads who will do it for you

Yeah the rant was justified in many ways. The horrible thing about it is I've known the bloke since I was 18, so over 17 years and they've always done good work. Also did my cage and previous rack really well and at a good price.

My mate Steve popped down there last week to drop of the crank shaft seal for me and he said a young lad was working on it. I think they've stuck some young chap on it as they've been preparing cars for something on at Coombe today.

Either way I won't go back again, I've got my coilovers coming in a couple of weeks. I'll do them myself.

Today just proves I'm better off learning and doing things myself.

On a positive note the car is running fine. Clutch feels great and the steering rack is 10 X better.

Just need to sort fuelling as its leaner now.

Thanks for the advice fellas, it's much appreciated. Top forum.

I'm going to call him this afternoon when I get some time and let him know what I think.

You're right though - I should be turning up with everything absolutely bang on, not getting home and finding numerous issues that need sorting.

Also out testing last night and an intercooler hose blew lose at high rpm in 3rd, I shit myself and thought i'd killed it. Luckily it was just a hose but again the idiots aren't fitting things back together correctly. The oil cooler is the thing that's pissed me off the most.
