Fitting AVO coilovers

I purchased a set of avo coilovers from the williamsclio group bay few weeks ago.
I fitted them with one of the 2 nuts provided with each front strut on top of the top mount to hold it all together and the dished standard nut on top of that.
Fitted this way the dish sat a hell of a long way out of the hole so i removed the nut so only the top dished nut was holding it all together.
This was fine untill yesterday when i noticed a big dint in my bonnet where the adjuster on the stop of the strut had hit the bonnet!!
Does anyone know if i have done anything wrong in fitting them?
I have ordered some new top mounts today, as i suspect that could be partly the problem.
Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

This sounds like the similar problem to the GAZ coilovers have on clios aswell, allthough it is the first time I've heard any problems with avo's.

Fitting them wise it sounds fine (well thats how I've fitted my KW coilovers, barring the removal of the nuts). I'm sure I've read somewhere that the issue with the GAZ coilovers was due to the top mounts being different? So maybe worth changing the top mounts like you are going too.

as posted on wc, i used the std reno nuts on my avos and had no problems at all, they allow the top caps to sit correctly, aslong as the rubber 'donut' is fitted the right way up everything will be fine!

My new 'donuts' should be coming today so i will take it all apart and have a look tonight. Might just be that they are worn, as i presume they are the origionals.
Was thinking about putting one of the nuts that came with the coilovers under the top mount to move the pistion a bit further down, but will have to look at the viability when i've got them off.
Richy you mention having the donut the right way up, is it possible to fit it upside down? From what i can remember it's pritty obvious which way up it goes.

i have seen them fitted incorrectly before, it should be quite obvious how it goes!

and as richy said, the avo nuts i had fitted seemed to be alittle too big so fitted the ones from my standard shocks and had no problems since then, love avo coilovers would recommend them to anyone :lol:

im taking mine off this weekend to swap onto another car so if you get stuck i will try and take some pics if that would aid you :lol:

Took them off last night to fit my new top mounts and i think i may have discovered the problem.
I think i fitted the spring top cup the wrong way up seems really obvious now! I tired it both ways a few times when i was putting them on first time.
I think with them the right way up and nice shiny new top mounts they should be ok.

I would deffo recomend the coilovers! The handeling is amazing! (when fitted properly!)
Just gotta get my bonnet sorted now pisses me off when it's down to my incompitence! :evil:
Trying to find a fresh bonnet first, as i will probs be easier/cheaper!

Hi guys, came to fit the coilies last night (@ about half 1 in the morning after doing the rear!) and couldn't work out how to put the coilies together....

There were two nuts loosely bolted onto the piston.... couldn't quite work out what to do with them!.. Anyone wanna do a mini step by step guide pleeeease!

You don't need to use the 2 nuts. The big dished nut on the top of the top mount holds it all together.
Make sure you have the cup on top of the spring the right way up, i.e pointy bit up into the top mount (that's what i did wrong).
I would recomend changing your top mounts aswell while your on.

Cheers mate fitted em up last night, i used both the bolts, one to hold the cone bit on and the other to hold the 'donut' mount on.... however there wasn't enough thread for the top mount to go on... thinking i'll do away with one of those big bolts!

Don't think there should be a nut between the cone bit and the top mount (donut). The cone needs to be flat agains the top mount bearing.
Like i said i didn't use either of the nuts. Had one above the donut and then the dish nut ontop of that, but then the dish was to far out of the hole, so i removed that nut and it's sits right now.
