Failed MOT Emissions HELP PLEASE!

Hi,

Just had the vee in for an MOT and it failed the emissions test twice:

1st Test:

CO- 0 - PASS
HC- 0 - PASS
Lambda- 1.088 (Limits are 0.970- 1.030)- FAIL

2nd Test:

CO- 0 - PASS
HC- 0 - PASS
Lambda- 1.046 (Limits are 0.970- 1.030)- FAIL

The lambda sensors appear fine as did a fault read last week and no codes or warning lights on dash.

Car has Quicksilver Sports exhaust and BMC CDA but that shouldnt affect it according to reading a few posts on here.

Any help/ ideas very much appreciated :approve:

Hey fella..

Had the same thing happen on my MOT a couple of months ago. I also have a QS sport exhaust. Fortunately i kinda know the MOT guy, though he wasn't about to make any concessions for me!, It seems that to make the QS its characteristic pop and bang.. its pulling in air (to a degree) and thus tells the computer the exhaust has a leak. We resolved this by covering the end of the tail pipes with a block of wood ( with the scensor inserted) to prevent any intake of freash air. It took a few minutes, but it had the desired effect.. bingo!!

1no MOT thank you!!..

Hope this helps!

All sorted :)

My LH exhaust hanger had completely come off the exhaust, this allowed the zorst to move and loosened the RH clamp and created a air leak which must have confused the lambdas. Retightened it and passed fine today, yay!

Wouldnt worry bout the QS as now its fixed it sailed through :D

Good news James!!

Mine, unfortunately didnt sail through,... well it did once the use of blocks of wood had been implimented.

lol, I had lined up a "slightly favourable" MOT with a mate if it had failed the retest, but was lucky lol

I wouldn't worry about it. My car sailed through the MOT with my QS Sports. The QS Sports generally has a track record of being fine on the MOT :approve:
