HI FOLKS!
JUST CHANGED THE HEAD GASKET ON MY R21 SAVANNA 1.9 OIL BURNER AND HAVE A BIT OF PROBLEM:roll:
THE REASON I CHANGED THE HEAD GASKET IN THE FIRST PLACE WAS DUE TO THE COOLING SYSTEM PRESSURISING BEYOND BELEIF (TO THE EXTENT IT ACTUALLY CRACKED THE EXPANSION TANK) AND OIL POURING OUT FROM BETWEEN THE HEAD AND BLOCK JUST ABOVE THE GEARBOX FLANGE.
I DID THE HEAD GASKET ON SATURDAY WITH NO PROBS WHATSOEVER, ALL WENT WELL AND CONSIDERING THE MILEAGE (186000 MILES) WAS AMAZED THAT THE BORES STILL HAVE THE ORIGIONAL HONING MARKS ON THEM AND A VERY MINIMAL LIP ON THE TOP
THE HEAD WAS SHOCKINGLY NOT WARPED AND WAS WELL WITHIN TOLERENCE AND CLEANED UP LIKE BRAND NEW.
I PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER BY THE BOOK WITH A DECENT FAI HEAD GASKET OF THE CORRECT THICKNESS AND I DO KNOW WHAT I AM DOING, FITTED A SECOND HAND EXPANSION TANK AND RAN IT UP WITH NO PROBS WHATSOEVER. ITS RUNNING LIKE CLOCKWORK, REALLY LOVELLY.
BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I NOW HAVE AN OIL LEAK FROM No: 10 HEAD BOLT (THE ONE ON THE FRONT NEARSIDE OF THE ENGINE NEXT TO THE VACUUM PUMP. OIL IS SEEPING OUT FROM UNDER THE HEAD OF THE BOLT NOW THAT I HAVE DONE A COUPLE OF HUNDRED MILES.
I JUST WONDERED IF ANYONE KNOWS IF THIS IS A COMMON FAULT WITH THESE ENGINES AND SHOULD I HAVE PUT SEALANT ON THE BOLT THREADS OR SOMETHING OR DOES IT SOUND LIKE I HAVE CRACKED AN OILWAY OR SOMETHING?
ITS NOT COMING OUT IN GUSHES OR ANYTHING TOO SERIOUS ALTHOUGH IT IS A NASTY LEAK, ITS JUST MORE ANNOYING THAN ANYTHING ELSE.
