Hi all. I know this is a turbo forum but i also know alot of you have experience with 172/182s. I am now considering an f4r swap into my daily.
Things i know. The top engine mount will fit on the existing bolt pattern next to the turret.
Things i hope are ok. The 4 speed gearbox will fit the f block (its an e7f engine in there atm) and give me mental acceleration, low top end and horrible fuel consumption.
Things i dont know and really need help with. Getting the wiring to work. Do i need to look for a cable throttle or can i use the non cable throttle as long as i have a pedal aswell. does this have a plug on the engine loom ready for this. and finally ive never been in one so i dont know if they have a push start. if so is this hard to overcome?
Any help would be majorly appreciated.
Progress will be documented and shown as a testament to your guys knowlege.

Last question before I pick an engine up. I will obviously need better brakes, what better than the standard 172 setup. I can get hubs and calipers pretty cheap. Is there anything stopping the hubs being used apart from needing 2mm off each side of the strut support? Does the bottom ball joint fit ok and the steering joint?
I have seen people use 172 wishbones but id rather not do that as it means new driveshafts aswell.
Thanks
Mark

The internal driveshaft splines in the hub centre will be different on the 172. You should be able to press the hub centre out of the mk1 hubs and into the 172 hubs though. balljoint and steering track rod end will be fine.

The 172 hubs/struts will be 14mm bolts, where the mk1 will be 12mm and possibly at a different spacing. You might well be able to fit an entire 172 strut and hub straight onto the mk1. Not sure if you might need to use camber bolts to get the wheels upright though, either way.
