dint realise how long it was but here goes !
BASICS -
first off we all know bout arches and power steering pumps and steering column joint ! watch out for these !
it is essential if you are serious about performance to uprate suspension and brakes ! and also says if the car has been lowered (on torsion bar) recomends gettin brake bias adjusted so back end wont lock up !
cambelts - 60000 service - 3000
STEP ONE - INDUCTION
any will do ! i recomend pipercross lookin at 3-4bhp gain
STEP TWO - EXHAUST
there are many good options out there! but advice is to (if you can) do it all at once - exhaust, de-cat, manifold ! lookin at 12bhp+
STEP THREE - FUELING
you should notice some gains from using super unleaded ! but FSE power boost valve is recomended in line between fuel tank and throttle body !
coupled together with induction and exhaust should be some good gains !
STEP FOUR - HEAD, CAMS & CHIPPING
top clio tuners will start by removing some offeding metal from inside the head tracts to open out the ports and smooth the route through the head for the intake and exhaust gases. A decent tuner will remove the valves and grind multi angle seats into the head and then lap the valves to match for a perfect seal. ANYONE WHO DOESNT REMOVE VALVES AINT WORTH IT !
once the head is done its time for cams and chips (mag recomends k-tec)lookin at 170-193bhp but if more than stage one might be makin a bit of a track beast that will idle more lumpy !
STEP FIVE - FORCED INDUCTION
when you consider throttle bodies will give you around 15-20bhp for about £3000 why not go turbo !
for around £4000 you get instant 200bhp and thats just a low boost conversion ! youll need to fit a thicker head gasket to reduce the compression ratio ! if you want the high boost conversion your lookin at 240bhp for an extra £1500 for the extra cash youll get lower compression forged pistons and rods and a paddle clutch to handle the 14-17psi of boost !
all from December 2007 issue
