Exporting a vee

Anyone know the score of exporting a vee. I've had an enquiry from a chap who lives in Norway. From what I can work out it would cost a bomb to get it imported into their country with tax etc. But what are the costs of exporting from this side of the water. What fees would i have to pay.

If the buyer comes over to the UK, pays for, and collects the car himself, then it should cost you nothing.

By coincidence I have just sold my wife's Audi A3 (today!!) to a chap from France and all I had to do was to hand over the signed V5C to the buyer (Sections 1 to eight), take a copy of their passport, drivers license (as ID and proof of address), and have a letter drafted up that clearly states the terms of the transaction and agreed price. This is signed by both parties and I retained a copy. Section 10 of the V5C then needs to be sent off to the DVLA with a covering letter as described in the attached PDF document.

Lastly, I have no idea why one would choose to travel from France to the UK to buy a RHD Audio A3, but that is what happened!

Thank you for that. The Clio v6 must be expensive in Norway. Their tax system for importing a car costs them a fortune. Probably around 2/3rds of what I have it advertised for.

Yes, I think the import laws differ from country to country, along with the costs of importing a vehicle. It doesn't appear to cost much to import cars into France and Spain - in 2014 I exported the Alfa SZ to Spain, and again it was a simple process at this end; sign and dispatch Section 11 of the V5C to DVLA and I was done.

As above Stevo. You shouldn't have to worry about any of that but if you do sort out the container or method of getting it over there it should be worth your while and be paid upfront for. There are people who make a living from inporting and exporting cars.

Norway hits all cars very heavily, it used to be 200% of market value but once it reaches 25 years old it drops to nothing when we were shipping cars out there. We used to ship wrecks out, register it, pay on that then bring back to the UK and rebuild, as it was then registered there, no more duty to pay! Noggies expect cars to be expensive so not a big deal to them. Best that they come and collect, easy for you as they will just fly into Norwich, then take ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland, drive up via Denmark and Sweden, brilliant drive and some unreal bridges! Easy :approve: They then present at border, pay duty and get issued registration and arrange for equivalent of MOT.
