19 Exhaust silencer(s)

Chaps, I'm about to embark on knocking up a side exhaust for my 225 powered 19. The 16V exhaust I've got on it so far has a biggish back box and a smaller one (200mm long) just after the cat converter. Sounds good on an N/A 16v.

My sidey will be 2.5" bore to match my downpipe. The question is - how many silencers do I need to put in it so that it's not obnoxious? Would just the one small box in the same place as the 16v exhaust be enough or do I need two?

I would go up to 2.75" if you are knocking one up from scratch, 2 silencers will be needed for reasonable noise levels as the small silencers don't do much. Bin the cat it makes a fair difference.

Cheers, my downpipe is only 2.5" though?

Also I don't have a cat on it, just mentioned that in the context of the 16V exhaust as the 16V has a cat as standard.

2.5" is a bit small depends how much power you want really - prob ok for 250-270hp. You could just mate a gt turbo tiger sidey to the back of your downpipe they are 2.5" if you are staying with that diameter.

280ish tops? can't be having that can we!

I dont think I can make the downpipe any bigger as I'm already borderline on master cylinder clearance with the 2.5" and perhaps more importantly, I can't be bothered with the ballache of making another one.
