Engine Transplants

Not something I'm considering at the moment, but was just thinking....

I've seen a few threads on here about people fitting the 21T engine in other cars, 5's & a kitcar I think. But has anything else been fitted in the 21? Was thinking the change to the 225BHP standard lump in the Renault Sport Meganes would be a nice upgrade, they must be pretty plentiful and cheap nowadays. Has it been done?

When the j7r is fitted to other things it is usually used with the un1 too. You'd need an adapter plate to mate other engines to the un1, use a gearbox like an ne3 which f blocks will mate to, or mount it transverse so the running gear would need to be changed too.

Might as well o2m or o2s it Haz if going down that hassle.

Surely the way to go would be to keep it longitudinal and use the UN1.

Getting an adapter plate would be pretty straightforward if a tadd expensive!

Crack on with it Dave, make sure you do a step by step guide for us

I've thought about it enough to know I would look into a Renault 21 1.7 subframe, which supports a transversely mounted engine and box in exactly the same style the F4R and JC box sits. Failing that idea, or if I didn't like how much space (wasn't) between the engine and bulkhead then yes it would be a longitudinal F4R mounted to the UN1/7 box. I suspect it would be option 2 as the rack (and a lot of other stuff) sits on the bulkhead for the longitudinal models but down on the subframe on the 1.7. The back clearance would likely prohibit the transverse setup, plus the longitudinal mount gives stacks of room for a mighty great big turbo.

...Actually Johnspin always wanted me to try a Cossie conversion, but I wonder if he fancies an F4R Turbo on Adaptronic....

No hassle Andy, someone else has eyed it up too ;) although I will have an 02m going in the 11.
Cossie imo is ok for tried and tested power, but just buy a cossie for the efforts and costs. I have a spare 172 lump that I was considering using but my 21 won't be getting anything 'special' now.
Adapter plate would be the simplest solution mated to a megane 225, for bigger power I'd use Clio 197 turbo.
