Engine advice

I have the F4R786,7 engine 2.0t that produces 170 bhp now I know there is 205 Laguna gt and Mégane 225 are they using same engine with different map and more powerful turbo or complete different setup was looking to modify my 2.0t for some more power

A quick google shows you can so say get 225bhp on all stock parts with just a map, so maybe just do the basic bolt on's to it and get it mapped by EFI parts or RS Tuning. I was on the understanding they were abit fragile much above 200bhp though.

I guess it relates to how you make the bhp. As its torque that kills the engine.

My meg is 400bhp using no more torque than a mk3 with a cooler/decat/map making 'only' 320.

@Saj_n proper cool build idea mate, look forward to seeing it grow. And fair play attacking it roadside

Thanks for all your help and replies, am aware of torque and whp which is different to bhp.
Have been doing my work roadside for many years did my dad's golf service along with wishbone, tie rod and stabilizer links on roadside 😜
Will need more advice when I'm ready to proceed 😁

Being brutally honest, a grand wont get you far tuning one of these engines mate.

Best bet would be to stick a full 225 engine in or laguna 205, a full megane 225 engine will be around £800 at least. By the time you factor in mapping £400, service parts and any other bits you will be in quite deep. Stuff like single mass flywheel as an upgrade and a clutch will set you back £500 alone, even stock 225 clutch and dmf is expensive new.

Id just get the stock engine mapped, and if it goes bang change it as and when.

Working roadside is no issue, ive done many a street engine swap/conversion in my youth😆

Thanks everyone for confusing me lolz, so if was to say fit a Laguna 205 would this be a straight swap or would this be same as Mégane 225 engine.
I did think about remap original engine and uprated turbo but that was before I realised internals on the 170 are weaker than 205 and 225 engine, I don't want to blow engine, so am thinking intake mod, exhaust mod and safe remap to say 190 to 195 bhp.
As this is currently daily runner can't afford to blow engine 😜😉

Seems a hard one.
If a few bolt ons and a tune will give you circa 200bhp, and your happy that's around what your after. Go for that.

If you have a tight budget then it's a case of pricing a build that'll fit that. Surely all f4r variants will fit, so it's just the budget.
If you can afford a meg engine (225/r26) then stretch to that, as you wont have to break the engine to up rate parts for a reliable 230bhp as circa 280-300 is doable on stick internals.

As said above, go to one of a few places for the mapping. Loads love efi and I've had all my work done at rstuning. Theres one or two southern ish places, depending on where you live.

Located in London but happy to travel if any member willing to help with engine swap that would be great of course would not expect for free. While done many things on engine and suspension feel an engine swap may be a bit much 😉
Anyways need to put money aside and will purchase engine first. Do second hand engines come with turbo ? Also will this gearbox be fine with 225 or should I use Mégane gearbox as well ?

pretty sure if you go to ktec (🤮) Paul at RS tuning does the mapping anyway so an option for something more southern. Possibly also Engine Dynamics.

your gearbox will mate up fine. What you get with an engine depends on what you buy, there is no set standard. There's a chap call Ash Gorley on facebook who will sell you the whole front out of a meg 225 for about 1k (y) gives you every thing you might need and more.

theres a specific kit for doing the belts, easy once you have done a few but fully floating cam pulleys make it abit of a pain. You lock the cams, pulley and crank up to work on them.

Need to do if I'm gonna keep engine as over 5 years or do engine swap soon. Don't want belt to snap 🤬

So guys have done some mileage and keep dreading the cambelt snap issue can take car to local dealers or local garage using own parts, however prefer to do myself, anyone done timing belt on F4RT engine and fancy lending a hand i have tools and can drive to you also donation for your time can be discusses, otherwise will have to be me alone working on the road.

@Moggy these are all keyed pulleys right?
