Emissions Light

Hi All,

I think my emissions light came on today (bottom right, orange light that looks a bit like the engine light in the middle of the dashboard?).

Car has just had service, MOT all perfect, but I have just had the Spike exhaust fitted.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Phil.

I did wonder if it might be that. Haven't had a coil go for about 4 years.

Is there a possibility it could be something to do with the new exhaust?

I'm not psychic - but I expect a coil will 'give up' in the next few weeks.

The problem is only a problem when the light stays on.

Sounds fine. The light came on randomly during my drive and stayed on. I switched it off and then started it again. Still on.

If it's still on and it's running fine - it certainly sounds like exhaust emission fault.

I didn't have any problems with mine. You've got to wonder whether it's the fitting or the product. I've not heard of a back box swap causing an emission light (any brand).

Yeah strange that.

I did the whole drive home from Scott's with it and probably another 50 or so the following weekend so it's not been immediate if that is the cause.

So just had the car out. Nice long drive (50ish miles), no roughness, no wierd smells. Car runs great but the light is still on!

I'd be asking my buddy at his MOT station to do a quick emissions test...

...process of elimination.

I have had no issues with a Spike Janspeed, even after Goodwood.

May be its time to get a diagnostic reader plugged in to check for any fault codes?

^^^and this would be next on my list!

Phil, the following thread may help, although it covers more than what you may be looking to use the tool for: CAN-BUS Data

If the above is a touch too much, then there are simple fault code readers listed on eBay: OBDII Reader (Not sure of the quality of such products though)

So I got myself one of these: ODBII Code Reader - Arrived today.

Plugged it into the Vee, and it turns out it is an O2 sensor:

Scott suspected it might have been this, and he was right. I'm going to reset it and see if it comes back. If it does, I'll obviously replace it!

Bank 1 Sensor 2
Bank 1 is the bank of cylinders that include No.1 cylinder. I think cylinders 1,3 and 5 are the front bank.
Sensor 2 is the sensor after the cat.

Don't take my word for it let someone else confirm
