Megane Electrical issues

Noticed today when you press the brake pedal the sidelights come on with the brakelights.

Also noticed the drivers windo regulator is starting to play up. Goes down when pressing up until you hold it then it goes up.

Is this the usual regulator issue? Do you think the two are related?

Mk2 Megane

The window sounds like the common reg problems with water ingress - its a door card off job I'm afraid, but once you get the card off, a quick clean of the connections on the module might sort it out - it did for me a year ago, and has been fine since - let us know if you need pointers on how to get the door card off (y)

Water ingress in the rear is common through the boot number plate lights, but I've not heard/read much about the brake lights and side lights playing up, I hope the 2 aren't connected, because if they are it could be a sign that the UPC is water logged? - anyone else have any ideas?

Where is the UPC so i can check?

The regulators have been done by a previous owner - it doesnt have the one touch operation anymore so i suspect they fitted an aftermarket job.

This video looks pretty good -

I thought it was located under the battery, or a little bit to the side.

[Note, that I have never had any issues with the UPC, so maybe not the best person to give you advise on this, i'd maybe wait till others have had a chance to see the thread before having a dig (y) ]

The UPC is like the electronic brain. I bet it will be water ingress as @papps said.

The window reg is a common fault. I used wd40 , then some vaseline and packed the plug with that. Then a balloon and tie wrapped it shut to prevent water ingress.

I know of one meg where the loom that connects the reg had corrosion on it and a clean sorted that out as well

Took the top off the upc - looks different from the one on the video. Also looks like a bastard of a job to remove it. Certainly not a job to start when its almost getting dark at 8 pm :stop.gif: I removed the rear clusteres and checked all the bulbs there - nothing obvious.

Job for another day - or possibly to pass on to an autospark

*********************** FIXED **************************

So after another bit of tinkering last night i discovered that when the lights were on the brake lights came on constantly. I decided to take another look at the rear clusters. Removed the driver side to check - nothing up there. Removed the passenger side stop tail bulb and the brake lights went off. Ah haa! further inspection of the bulb revealed this...

The filaments inside the bulbs were touching and creating a short. £1 new bulb later and sorted. Result.

Now i just need to get the drive shafts sorted...
