ebay vs PH

JR

Old enough to know better
as you may know i recently sold my 19 cabby. The ad on PH was free so went with that option first. But being a keen ebayer i decided to stick the car on there, as that was where i found it.

I was suprised that it cost £12 to place the listing on ebay but as i'd spent some time putting the data in i decided to cough up.

The car got some interest on PH and i relpied to the messages and when people asked for pics i referred them to ebay, some were not too happy to here it was on ebay.

The car made reserve on ebay halfway through the auction, to my suprise (i expected bidders to hold out to the last few seconds like i would). Then someone from PH said they would buy the car there and then once they'd given it the once over so i arranged for them to have a look. It turned out to be about 6/7 hours before the ebay listing ended. He loved the car and had the cash there and then so i sold it.

The problem was that the auction was impossible to cancel despite anything i tried. I couldn't even change the wording on the ad to say don't bid!

So the car sold off the free ad on PH and the £12 ad on ebay caused a right headache! Worth knowing for anyone selling in the future i recon.

Ebay has changed allot these days, used to be some real gems on there and the older layouts worked better, i sold my 5 on PH relatively quickly generated allot of interest, had iton ebay aswell but some dickheads kept making me stupid offers

didnt know PH was free, so anyway, what happened to the guy that "won" the ebay auction?

i messaged him with the explanation and was very apologetic. It was resolved following an email to ebay and using the "resolution centre" if the buyer was content to let it go ebay would waive the final valuation fees (thanks ebay!?) So as he'd not contacted me to view or bid previously i assume he wan't serious anyway.

i use ph a lot to sell cars its very good but its only free for standard advert your car go lower doun the page you pay for premam advert on pistonheads but thay go at the top of the page ebay is ok but it cost to much
