E6J is carbed, E7J uses a primitive form of fuel injection. The E6J and early E7J's both made 80bhp which is not bad for an engine designed in the late 80's.
Both make same power, although later E7J units used a slightly reworked head to improve fuel economy, but at the expense of a 5bhp drop in power to 75bhp.
Without knowing exact figures I'd say consumption is around the 32-35mpg mark, with the E7J faring slightly better than the E6J in the economy stakes on account of it's use of fuel injection.
