Dumb actuator question...

S

sonof

Just thinking about if i actually do need to replace it. my cars symptoms are that when you push the go pedal to the floor the boost keeps rising to a point where the car splutters etc etc.
is this a symptom of a knackered actuator?
or could it be the pipe to the actuator is broken thus not limiting the boost level?
cheers,
pat :)

It's possible this could be the problem among other thing's.
What is it boosting to before you get trouble?

hi, it was getting to about 25-30psi, which is obviously too high for a standard engine etc. i only did this a couple of times to see if it was just a 'blip' or something wrong. the cars off the road (failed its mot) at the moment so an ideal time to sort it properly.

is there an easy way i can test the actuator without any special equipment?
cheers,
pat :)

hi,i had an overboosting problem with mine for ages(turned out to be the actuator in the end).
you need to check every hose for leaks, the intercoolers aswell, check the amal valve still works to do this turn the key til you get ignition lights then press the throttle pedal, the amal valve should make a clicking noise.
i done all this and mine still overboosted so i replaced the actuator and it sorted the problem.
there may of been a couple of other things to check too,if you do a forum search under overboosting im sure more suggestions will appear.

attach a long pipe to the actuator and blow into the other end. If you blow forever, the actuator's fubared.

ok cheers guys :)
will check all the things you've suggested and report back.
cheers,
pat :)
