Door handle springs

The door handles on the Ph1 cab don't feel as springy as they should be.

When you open the door, the handle doesn't quite return to a normal position and sticks open a bit. Feels like it doesn't have enough spring to return properly.

Anyone else had this? Small thing but it annoys me. Slowly fixing all the little issues to make this car great once again.

I tried to remove the door handle to have a closer look but couldn't get the handle off after i'd removed the securing screw, i couldn't get the handle off the metal rod.

yeh mine is the same, take it u mean interior handles? i found the little bit of plastic which holds the end of the return spring has snapped, so it dont snap right back to where it should sit. to get the handle off remove the bolt, then pull the handle away from the door card, if u rotate it 90 degrees it slides off the dog leg bit on the rod, ull see wot i mean, an prob find the same peice of plactis has snapped off!

the door spring corrodes and breaks thus the lever does this.

To get the handle off, door card off, pop the lever rod off the lock assembly, to do this feel the plastic clip then push it off the rod, it will rotate then the rod can pull out.

you already sad you have the 10mm out

slide the handle then lift it out with the rod still attached to the handle

To change the spring is tricky, the handle often splits so either new handle or make one up from spring wire and coil it round the rod (fiddly but doable)

Are they the same between Ph1 and Ph2 or are the later ones colour coded?

nope no colour coding that ive ever seen anyway

same but newer doesn't mean better, the rear door handles are the best buy as they are the same but don't have the everyday use, so obviously you need to look at 4/5 doors for those.

Forgive the simplistic approach but have you tried simply spraying a bit of lubrication on?

My first port of call would be to douse it in PT85 (WD40 + Silicone) and work it baby work it..

If it fails what have you lost? Nowt. Onwards with replacements.
If it wins.. you win.

Bit harsh that.. the hasnt even checked the condition of the springs, only posted on here that his handles dont return as expected.

its a common problem its not cos they are stiff, the flap about and when you close the door they bounce open etc

Yeah the handle isn't getting stuck, you can push it in by hand very easily, just doesn't have enough spring effort left to close it fully

I had this problem with one of mine. The problem wasn't a snapped spring at all but the little plastic lug that the spring acts against had snapped off.

Did you ever get a handle on this problem? The tension is killing me.

On the plus side, if that's your only problem then you're doing well
