Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak

Appears to have been produced and filmed before the current COVID-19 pandemic, but the patterns, messaging and other facts are very relevant to the current pandemic.

It is very good from an educational or informational point of view, especially to those who are either in denial or are reckless enough not to take notice or heed warnings.

Closing non-essential businesses and advising people to stay indoors as much as possible is hardly a 'lock down'

It seems a half way fudge as point 1 was don't go out then point 4 was carry on going to work if you can't work from home . So nowhere near the lock down in European countries.

Yes, it is not a 'lockdown' in the truest sense, where marshall law has been applied, yet, but this is essential in order to halt this menace of a virus. Italy was too complacent, so we don't need to end up in such a situation.

Having said that, do expect an SMS message (I haven't got one myself as yet): Coronavirus: SMS messages

We can only isolate once for the NHS to even remotely cope. Holding off for as long as we can while it was keeping its head above the water was the right thing to do. However, now it should be full lock down. No in betweens. Not a half assed one but full. Italy actually locked down pretty quickly after figuring out what was actually going on. Much was not broadcast on our loudy news feeds. I was working with a fair few Italians last month and they knew the problem was very real and had measures in place.

Fully agree, but the public at large also should take responsibility, not go out on a 'last hurrah' just before pubs, bars, and restaurants shut, as was the case over the last weekend in London, and then piling into the tubes and buses to get home. Madness!

The issue with Italy was they isolated the north first, which is where the first cases and fatalities were, and then imposed a lockdown there, but by the time the full country was locked down, thousands had made their way to the South. There were some passengers, who were being interviewed at a railway station, openly admitting that they are travelling south before the lockdown kicks in.

I'm hoping that 2 big differences between us and Med countries that might also help is they have a culture for grandparents to live in the family home and they greet anyone with kisses and hugs so had little chance against this virus.

100%. The british public have in general been a disgrace. Even now, vast amounts are kicking off because the government aren’t helping or shall I say giving hand outs. Argument being Boris has gave the option “stay at home and starve or go to work and eat” when in actual fact he’s gave the instruction to “stay at home and keep well”.

...and historically smoking 60-a-day.

There’s a new government advice on those who are ‘extremely vulnerable’. I believe it paints the true story of those who the NHS will struggle to revive. We all know somebody on that list - there must easily be a few hundred thousand in the UK.

Further, Italy has the highest number of over-65's in Europe, which is also said to be a contributory factor, so that too goes against them. However, it now appears that Spain too is not far behind, and the death toll there has exceeded that of China. :(

By now all those who the NHS and/or Public Health England consider as vulnerable should have been contacted, so hope they have received the necessary advice and guidance on what to do.

In case anybody is interested I have been using this site to understand the global impact of this pandemic: Confirmed Cases and Deaths by Country, Territory, or Conveyance

...and who would have thought COVID-19 came to the UK from Austria, and, if proven to be true, has been circulating in the UK since mid-January! UK patient zero?

Now the man himself has tested positive for COVID-19! LINK
