DO CAMS = POWER OR BULLSHIT

AM THINKING ABOUT DOING SOME PERFORMANCE UPGRADES ON MY VEE, FIRST ON THE LIST IS CAMS BUT NEED SOME GUIDANCE AS TO WHO DOES WHAT AND HOW DO THEY PERFORM ON THE CAR. I HAVE SEARCHED THE KNOWLEDGEBASE BUT HAVE FOUND NO REFERENCE TO ANY STD CAM TIMING FIGURES, DOES ANYONE HAVE THIS INFO?
AS FOR THE WHO DOES WHAT BIT ARE THERE ANY TIMING FIGURES FOR PERFOMANCE CAMS, IF IN FACT THESE DO EXIST, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW.
ALSO INTERESTED IN WHAT THE UPPER REV LIMIT IS FOR THESE ENGINES, WHAT DO THE TRACK BOYS TAKE EM TO AND DO THEY HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH VALVE BOUNCE OR LIFTER PUMP?
I HAVE CHOSEN CAMS AS ONE OF THE FIRST OPTIONS AS I HAVE A SPARE ENGINE OUT OF THE CAR THAT CAN BE WORKED ON THEN SWAPPED OUT.

There isn't much info anywhere on the forum about cams, a few mentions in the tech manuals (knowledge base).

A few people have had different cams fitted, but still not a great deal written about them. I had cams which I believe were made by Shrick from blanks, I guess that means there were none available off the shelf. I've no details on them other than a few pretty pictures which mean very little to me. Basically cams are something my garage said the Vee was having as part of a "performance" package. Being technically ignorant I can't offer much more help on this subject.

Schrick would be a good place to start, and i have used their cams before with good results, thanks.

Got on to scrick, no go, dont do them for v6, will look at newman, i do need definate cam timing figures though, for both std and anything i am going to buy. i am not interested in "this is the one for you bud" type deals, i need facts.

If your flow limited initially, is there any point if changing cams?

The stock engine, sans restrictions, will hapilly plough out an extra 20-25bhp.

Stick in wilder cams and all you'll do is loose that nice chunky bottom end and gain single digit bhp up top.

Rpm wise, its hard to comment as stock cams wont give you a problem, but lifter pump and bounce is down to valve acceleration rates and how much jerk you are experiencing, so I wouldn't be prepared to give a definate answer for such an open question.

With modern engines, I find that changing cam profiles is probably one of the latter stages I personally do, all you end up doing is narrowing the usable area under the torque curve.
