this may just be normal but its hard to get first and second especially when the cars cold. Sometimes i have to put it in neutral, release and engage the clutch again to get the gear in.

any suggestions cable/linkage adjustment?

Could just be cold oil making it a bit 'sticky'?

Either that or your clutch is doing funny things lol They're self adjusting, aren't they? I had trouble with mine for a while but it fixed itself :)

Change the oil?? last few geaboxes i have drianed in the past couple of weeks more than half of them were pretty much filled with mud! :O! always the first step! :D

the oils been drained and filled with new stuff twice when i had the engine out. It could just be the thick oil when cold but id like to fix it.

Probably just normal, i was driving a brand new corsa the other day and it was the same. not quite as bad tho. Im gonna check clutch cable free play and gear linkage adjustment anyway

the williams does this, i just live with it tho

+1
but it could be just a clutch cable issue like mine, but i dont think my pedal box has got much life left in it.

New cable might help, as the clutch might not be disengaging fully.

It's not unusual for it to be difficult to get into first though when cold, think it's just the box.

75w 90 oil causes this (tried and tested).
Need to get yourself some 75w80 from reno ideally.

Can blip throttle when changing down to help.

mine has always done this and never really get bothered by it. I just adjust my driving to suit now when the Williams is cold

i had this and it turned out me diff was going and went lol do you hear a droning noise at all and is there play in the cup on the drivers side that the drive shaft sits in ?

no nothing like that. I have a genuine renault invoice in the service history stating a new gearbox at 85k. Probably a re con one or something. Shouldnt be anything wrong with it really its now on 100k.

i have trouble getting fifth sometime, not jsut when cold though, anyone have an idea?

^^^^^^
midge could be the big nut working lose under the end cap hinders fifth

o/p gears 1 and 2 is either adjustment or worn mountings..dog bone and battery tray mountings will allow engine to move thus affecting adjustment..

normally clutch related drag will affect reverse worse as theres no syncromesh on it..

I was having probs with mine. Then the cable snapped!!!!Again.New year a new cable. Ive got another car now so no rush lol....
