Dead battery

Guys, my v6 won't start the engine (electrics are OK) without a jump start from another car any more, it won't even charge the battery with an external charger.

I have never changed the battery and suspect previous owners haven't either but Scott replaced the starter motor like 3 years ago.

Is it possible that my car is still with the factory battery?

I can see this number 050504, could that be the manufactured date? Mine was registered in 2005

This is the original battery as fitted to ours, which we owned from new.
Replaced with new renault albeit now different stickers/numbers about 2 yrs ago.

Looks like the original battery to me. That’s a bloody good innings!
Some seem to last better than others, I have done 105k in my Volvo in six years on the same battery I bought it with, it's the longest i've ever had one last I think lol

Looks OEM.

I changed my battery after many years. Turns out it was fine but needed starter motor.

It’s a handy weight now in the woodshop.

Thanks guys, so that number engraved "050504" could easily mean the manufacture date 05/05/2004.

What battery you guys are fitting? is the silver Bosch S5 007 still recommended? Or go for the same Renault battery? Any others?

As stated in my orig reply i went for genuine renault, was only £70 or so, personally i hate all things bosch, took me a while to come to terms with fitting bosch starter, but Steve Plane mispelt name on invoice so i satisfy myself that i havn’t sold my entire sole. Yes i know all my cars will have some bosch components, but i’m blissfully ignorant mostly or peel the stickers off!
If you struggle with code for new battery if going renault route let me know and i’ll check mine.

I replaced my original battery (ive had the car from new) a few years back with another genuine Reno one... it was crap and only lasted a couple of years. I tried to get it replaced but was told it only had 12 months warranty. I then brought a Bosch or something like that from Halfords with a 5 year warranty. One month shy of the 5 years it went again... Halfords didn't flinch to replace it with another new one (i obviously had the receipt). Your choice but I'm happy with the service I had from Halfords.

So Id say use Euro parts or who ever you like as long as you get that decent warranty from a company you hope that will still be around for years to come.

That's weird that your new Renault battery only lasted for a couple of years when mine has lasted 14 years!

I was just wondering about the Bosch as it has more punch than the original one. Also because Scott fitted a new bigger starter motor on mine and I have also a tracker fitted, then it may make sense the extra power.

I finally fitted a Varta E38 Silver Dynamic which is equivalent to the Bosch S5 007. These are more powerful than the original ones but I don't know if it will last 14 years like the Renault one:
