So a bit about this car, and its been a few years so info and pictures aren't the best.
It was originally owned by @Brigsy many years ago, iirc back in 2004? It had been given a doors shut respray at some point, the front seats had been replaced with 90spec rs turbo recaro's, the c1j had been replaced with a Volvo B18ft but was a none runner and was in need of a little tlc. I'm not sure how it came about but it was up for sale for £150 and @robin was interested so we headed over and collected it along with a few spares and brought it back to nocturnal HQ on the farm. Please excuse the pics, technology wasn't as good back then! And I didn't take as many pictures.

(Yes that's scoff's rwd in the background)
First job was to try and get it running, after a bit of faffing I was assumed the wrong flywheel had been fitted as part of the conversion, maybe a clio 16v, but thinking about it now it may have just had the wrong ecu's. I think Robin had planned to return it back to oe anyway so the engine was removed and was left for a while.
At some point Robin had changed his mind and decided he wanted a GTT and Scoff was interested so Robin offered it to him for £100.
Scoff also wanted to return it to oe, things like seat etc were just as hard to find back then so it got left for a bit longer and then scoff decided he was to busy with other things so offered it to me for £50, naturally I said yes.
At some point during the above a few bits were removed like the seats but we had also found a few areas that was in need of welding as it had gone unnoticed during the respray so it was stripped and made a start on restoring the car when I had time.
I think some pics are missing as this looks to be the second bash at it, maybe 2006?
starting with engine bay, rust was buzzed back and red oxide applied

A new owner came to the farm so we moved to another building on the farm and it just sat under a cover for the duration, I did source a few bits like some tidy front seats etc but they have been wrapped and in storage since. After a while we had to move out of that unit too, I down sized and scoff wanted to get into tuning, but not just carbed GTT's.

once again some work commenced, I assume around 2008. as some of the smaller work way getting there it was time to get serious. Back then a rollover spit wasn't as common and expensive so you had to improvise!

There's limited things available for the 11 so I decided to experiment with the bumper and chop it about to extend the lip like the zender bumper

I moved units once again as I had bought a house and wanted to reduce my outgoongs. I'm not sure where I stored it at this point, I assume in my friends unit but I eventually got round to building a garage at home. It was brought home and once again left to the side.

After a while I needed more space so I removed the wall the joined to the shed and shoved it in there out of the way where it sat for some time

Around 2011 when Scoff was making 'only' 400ish bhp it was decided that it was time to move away from Volvo conversions. although the cost was greater there are more gains to be had from the later F engines. The basic thoughts were if the F7p makes 150bhp and the F4r makes 172bhp and the later 197bhp, for easy calcs, at 1bar of you boost double the figure, 2bar and you treble it. With the 197 making up to an extra 141bhp at 2bar it made sense to go with that.
I already have an F4r in storage so bought a 197 head and inlet. It wasn't packaged well and received some damage in the post.

I've since had it repaired and chucked it onto the every growing pile of bits.

Next on the list of bits to hoard was the gearbox. We know the JC5 is a decent box but over 300bhp they start to get a little fragile. I'm not one that enjoys mechanicing so I really only want to do this once. Again scoff was having no issues with his 02m conversion and again becoming more popular these days. At the time the gearboxes were fetching over £500 and as I was in no rush I sat it out and kept my ears open, also thinking about using some other audi bits. After some time I had also decided that I fancied 4wd.
A few months ago I got offered an a3, minor bump but was a complete car for £400. I didn't really have the spare cash for something to sit on the shelf so passed on it but a month or so later the guy got back in touch, £250 if gone that weekend. Naturally I went to collect.

As I was only interested in the box I hadn't really considered anything else and hadn't really done much research either. This audi was a 5 speed, I wanted 6 really but had read somewhere that the top end is no different, 6th is just an overdrive.
At this point I had to do some thinking. Should I just scrap the idea of fitting it to the 11 and just tune the audi up, so i did some research. Mine is fitted with AJQ engine, the least power/tuneable one. Its a 5 speed. Its not the wide track version. Its got 5 doors. And it bruise coloured. Its all wrong! Really I should just get an S3.
So, you know when you have a car in your head you spot them everywhere, well I did. Every S3 I saw had some scally behind the wheel, black hoodie, black cap, tinted windows, driven like a twat. Im not exactly a role model but I didn't want the stigma.
Back to plan A, well plan C.
As the 11 shares some things with a Gtt the bits aren't to bad to source, but some are, so I want to use a few other bits off the audi to both moderise it and so parts are easily available on the shelf. Things like the driveshafts and prop, maybe the brakes, maybe the suspension. Probably best to just remove what I don't and sell it to recoupe cash and clear space so the strip down started

splash guards doing a good job!
IMG_7367.webp So as I continued to strip the car I made a few more decisions on what to use/sell until it was mostly strip bar what I wanted

If I plan to scrap the audi, and I want most of the underside it makes sense to get the grinder out

I have still got some pics of this when i owned it. I know the previous owner who converted it to b18ft in the 90s, had loads of stereo in it at one point. Good to see it getting some loving(y)

:sweetjesus:I take my Hat off to you @Haz many times over... :bt::bt::bt::bt::bt::bt:

If my 11 had 1/5th of the Rust yours had It would be holding beans by now in Tesco! Just AMAZING what you managed to salvage & repair from the original bodywork, and now just AMAZED at what you are cooking up for the future and your new Renault S14 (11 + S3) :declare.gif:

Great work chap, look forwards to reading more about this!

looking good haz, is the plan to just drop the body over or are you going to fit and fab it all into the 11?

Tbh I'm still winging it. The Audi is longer and wider, as it stands there isn't any flex in the floorpan so I'm reluctant to remove the sills. I want to use as much Audi mechanicals so it's modern and off the shelf without bespoke parts. I want to drop the 11 shell on top but the inner wings and tops aren't the best, same with the ns a pillar. The qtrs and wings will want widening like the zender kit too. So it's only the front and rear panels, roof and screen surround that will be untouched.
And it means chopping out most of the bits that's good on it and still having to repair all the rough bits.
I want to keep it under 1000kg too so want as many fibreglass panels as possible so it may just be easier to make a frame for them to bolt on.
Still researching. .

Err thanks?? Yeah I showed interest on the fb mention of these. Did you email them? Should we start a thread to see if there's others in the club to add to the bulk buy? Interested to see what discount they can offer.
I will have to get some finished sizes off them, the Audi has 18's and I think and about 2" wider, I've measured that many points I'm loosing track!

Epic work mate. That is some serious madness (in a good way) going on there!

Guess the red 21 in the background is MHR?

Yup, I'm reluctant to put it outside as I'd removed quite a bit to access what was needed. The shed leaks a little with severe weather but it's drier and less uv than outside.
