5 GT Turbo Cutting out/stuttering when running

As title really. Doesn't really matter what type of driving it's doing i:e boosting or cruising buts it's sometimes really jumpy then when driving down the road it just cuts out, afr gauge goes fully to the right (17off the scale) I'll slow down then with a jump it just bursts into life again. Revs on idle seem to be up a bit and irratic.
I've changed the fuel filter to see if that helps, no joy.
Any help (renault 5 gt turbo btw) :help.gif:

its probably easier to start with getting it running sweet at idle. not sure how much has been done recently to it but might be worth going over and cleaning the ignition system and then the carb. Followed by checking for leaks and stuff.

Jumpy and cutting out on the road could be a different issue. I had similar once, turned out it was the over boost sensor wiring shorting out on the body work and causing the spark to cut out intermittently.

Hi, thanks for the reply. It's always ran great tbh. Fueling on the afr looks spot on, and there's no leaks or anything that I can see. Just cuts out and after a drive out the idle is all over the shop when starting.
?

might be worth checking for leaks with some gas of some sort, they will show up at idle by increasing or decreasing the revs when the gas gets into the engine. Could be just dirt in the carb causing it

I would start with changing leads and dizzy cap maybe plugs too and go from there. Buy good bougicord o.e leads from misterauto.co.uk and a good ducellior cap/rotor arm if poss. Swerve the cheap ebay shite

Ding ding round two,
After changing the plugs leads and distribution cap and arm
this morning the car cuts out completely and won't restart.
Listening outside the fuel pump wasn't operating, couple of taps on the relay didn't solve anything. Few more attempts at starting then I heard the pump operating then it fired straight up no bother, but was pretty jumpy and not really a smooth drive.
What next?

Isn't the relay only used for start up? If it was a bad relay surly it wouldn't cut out?
No the fuel pump relay should be on permanently when cranking/engine running. Bridge it so the pump runs all the time and go for a drive, if the car is fine then its a faulty relay. My 9 Turbo used to drive fine then it'd just stop. Then be fine, then stop. Then be fine again.

Quick reply, I bow to you knowledge. :)
I'll give it a try tonight. Sounds like it could be that.
I'll update you so you can sleep easy tonight. :i-m_so_happy.gif:
Someone like @Brigsy will tell you which of the wires to bridge, its not a "standard" relay it's some odd rectangular six wire thing. I cant remember for the life of me!

If you take the relay out when the car is running. Should it stop then?

Easy relay test ;
Turn engine off
Located the pipe from FPR to carb
Remove it at the carb end
Get a glass/plastic clear jar.
Place pipe that you have just removed into the jar
Crank car.

Fuel coming out ? Relay is considered good.

Check the tdc sensor conenctions too. Next time you have a no start see if the rev counter is moving that will tell you if tdc is working or not. Bridge the wiring to check relay..they fail though worth replacing if in doubt.
