Hi All, Currently building a lightweight Alpine GTA Turbo LM for hillclimb and sprinting. The engine is a 21 Turbo J7RF756 for low C, of G. and weight.
Currently the overall weight projection will be sub 950Kilo with circa 260BHP. My question is as to suitable clutch set as the engine came without clutch/cover/bearing so need the lot. Marrying to UN1 as standard set up.
Helix now only do the clutch plate. I would appreciate any experience, recommendations and supplier/manufacturers etc.
Many thanks
TJ

I put one of these together about fifteen years ago lol. It ran when it left me but was never finished. You'll need a remap for 260hp, or, standalone management. 260hp is achievable with a cam and decent turbo/intercooler setup but thats about the limit before you need to uprate other internals.

Uprated clutch here

Thanks Dave yes remap /Turbo/Intercooler and internals taken care of. Unfortunately the clutch set from Mespieces is sold out, I have been talking to him for some months but unlikely any time soon for more stock.

I have been using the same standard clutch for the past 15 years in the 21 whilst playing on the hills running between 220 -280 depending on boost setting.
Out of curiosity, which category /class are you planning to enter?

If you have budget I can do you a bespoke solution like mine, ideal for long term as its refurbishable going forward and organic plate so no horrid judder but you need a full flywheel and clutch package.

This is mine before it's first friction plate refurb after many full bore 4wd launches :) I can also do you a 185mm twin plate number but thats even more dosh.

Thanks for that, It is an option to run a standard clutch given its use over a season and changing the clutch is a fairly easy job given the planned configuration and then there is the cost as well. Regarding your question on class that is yet to be debated with the scrutineers as this one will be road legal but with a few changed elements.
I currently run in Modified Series Production with the GTA but this will be slightly more interesting to classify. To be honest I am not too bothered as I am always after beating P.B.s in previous cars but thats not to say I don't like the competition.

Hi Dave that looks interesting can you direct me to your product site or is this a 'One I made earlier' scenario?

One I made earlier
This :)

It's a TTV flywheel, both are actually (single and twin plate). The single plate clutch is an equispaced 6-bolt Helix 200mm with organic friction plate, the twin plate I am going to use the TTV equispaced 6-bolt 185mm own brand twin plate as it's 10mm less in height for clearance.

Single plate with flywheel you wont get much change from £800 and twin plate is headed for 4 figures (and my prices are a couple of years old now). Nobody has ever bought one for a 21 (which this is for) other than me lol :)

Twin plate when I sized it up

It will be interesting to see what the scrutineers will say, Mod prod or sports libra?
I chase PB now as well, I generally run in Mod Prod over 2L at my local and always up against 500+ Evo's, Aston martin Vantage and various other exotic machines, and if there is not enough in class it's sports libra or upto 2l class, either way it is interesting!

Yes classes are a mess these days with Alps being the rarer beast. Competing in my A610 or GTA normally ends up with Skylines and Porsches although luckily now four wheel drive are in a separate class, what venues do you compete at?

In the past I use to do venues like Goodwood, Brighton, Longleat etc, basically south coast central area with one trip to Prescott, but for the past few years I have just done Gurston due to time & logistics.

I'd imagine it looks something like this :)

This is the mod I had to do to the 21 bellhousing to make it fit the GTA box (obv plated over and welded)

Hi Dave I finally got a message from Mespieces to say he had new stock of clutch kit so this is route I will go. If I was racing I think your kit is the best solution. Thank you for the images and info. Do you know the part numbers for the coil packs and control unit? My engine only came with coils mounted on so control units are missing,
