5 GT Turbo Coupe Cup car

As some of you may know I purchased a pre production 5 GT Turbo Cup car from Mark fish. (Formerly Eugene’s)

It does have a little damage (bit more than a little) but it’s an easy enough repair.

Plan is to repair and bring it back to it’s former glory. My original plan was to go all oe as it was back in 1985. But I actually want to race it and be competitive so will end up being a bit of both with the ability to revert back if it was needed.

I can’t wait to get started on it but have lots of other peoples stuff to get done first.. 😥

If anyone has any info on the car or able to find out anything about it. Would be greatly appreciated as I want as much info/history on the car as possible. 😁

Some images pre accident.

This one is at the 2004 reunion race where it qualified 5th with Martin Sadler at the wheel.

I know it's not perhaps what you've have planned... but having owned a Cup Car I was always so conscious of the C1J overheating when you're thrashing it round a track.

If I had my time again, I would have fitted a F7P or F4R to it, to make it much more usable...

To that end.. I saw a guy online advertising an F7P engine this morning which I think would make it much more usable/reliable It's in the "CLIO WILLIAMS OWNERS CLUB"??:

I get where your going with it but in the types of racing I want to do it needs original engine/gearbox type to be eligible. I know I’m not going to be able to afford to do much but it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and can’t wait to experience it.

I Spoke to Tom Frankland at Oulton and he was saying how there aren’t many 5’s racing these days. Which is a shame.

Ive never had water temp issues on mine, last week at Brands 85 degrees max in the race And this turbo is now water cooled.

I think the issues come from pushing the T2 to make decent power

Worry far too much, i bet the raider is ok on track temp wise. Never had one overheat when right. Only badly maintained or poorly built overheats. Mine runs 85-90deg max

So my parts gathering is getting there slowly for the Cup car, Just realised been sent 2 rh headlamps but it’s in hand and Adam is sending me a Lh.
Also have some indicators coming from @Mart among other bits including a bigger turbo, cam pulley, baffled sump etc.

Paul Mullineux has got a right inner wing for me that may be useable/repairable.

Also have a copy ph1 grille coming from Youngtimers.

Got a set of the wider arches that @Clarkey does that came up on Fb. I’m probably going to buy a set of the fibreglass Ph1 rears and see what I do once the rear suspension/track is all sorted. I’m pretty good with fibreglass so may integrate the ph1 parts into the rear arches if I need the extra width.

Found a company pretty local to me that makes torsion bars and arb’s so will be contacting them about some when it’s straight again. Thanks to @Clarkey for the info.👍

@sparkie has been helping me with engine options/upgrades. Hoping for a decent power hug going to retain the carb and start off with 200/220bhp. Which should be great fun. 😁

Has it taken a knock to mainly the osf or is it full frontal?

I’ve got a front cross member which is pretty sound , inner wing support and inner arch which are repairable. Only thing I don’t have is a headlight panel.

You’re welcome to them if you can get them from Norfolk to you? I’m not far from snettertonIMG_4144.jpeg
