Did you try an order a petrol blue Shaun?
I did indeed Mossy...
What's the full story then pal, you have me intrigued
Not a great deal to tell really bud. Just a tale of bad timing and circumstance..
My little plan of 172 - 182 - v6 didnt quite work out 'as planned'. After little more than twelve months of ownership of the 182 I heard that Renault were to stop production of the v6. In my little plan, this wasn't supposed to happen for well over a year yet!!!
I went to my local dealer from where I'd bought both the 172 and 182 from previously, to place an order for my dream Clio... the Renault Sport v6 Clio 255. I'd been looking at the various colours available in the brochures and as I'd gone for Arctic Blue on the 182, as I didnt want the extra cost of an i.d. colour and really quite liked Illiad on the v6, the colour of which I would almost certainly have chosen had I been in a position to buy a v6 and not the 182.
The sales guy I had used previously introduced me to a new guy.. bit odd I thought, but ho hum. Couldnt have been much older than 19/20 and was certainly a bit green, but I still felt I'd get looked after.. seeing as the sales manager and I had a mutual good friend.
I told him I was interested in ordering the v6, and gave him my colour choice... Petrol Blue. I'd been discovering more about the various v6 colours since purchasing my 182... and Petrol Blue was the one for me. No sales data had been released by RUK at this time, as it was still a current model, and although I'd not seen a PB v6, I just felt it'd be an epic choice of colour having seen it on a 182 at Brands Hatch.
After making some inquiries, to my utter disappointment, he informed me.. "Sorry sir, Petrol Blue is no longer available as a colour option on the v6". Disappointed with this news, I asked him to quote me anyway, for Black Gold and to take my 182 as P/X. Only having had the 182 for such a short time.. the figures just didnt work for me. I just could not take such a massive hit on the 182, and for the colour choice of v6 that was not my first choice. Even after speaking to the sales manager, it still wasnt a realistic option.
I left the show room deflated and somewhat pissed off I'd missed the opportunity of buying a brand new Clio v6 in the ideal colour of my choice. I was resigned to having to find a good second hand v6 once it was time to move the 182 on.. and 'hope' that there was a Petrol Blue v6 somewhere in the UK! Of course, we now know that no PB's were ever ordered in the UK. Who could have guessed that Petrol Blue would have become so elusive!
