Just for the book then, did Renault consider the V6 a succes? Ifso, what are the chances of seeing something exciting and different in the future? Not just a stripped out Megane aka R26r but abit of rare exotica?

good question!

Did they make any money on the Vees or was it purely a 'PR Exercise'?

Was it not said previously by 'someone', that each v6 sold, actually cost Renault nearer £70k?

honestly?! Bloody hell! Verging upon the Sinclair C5 and XJ220 scenarios!

Fascinating reading!

A racing blue phase 2 with trend lines from the factory would have been perfection!

I'm sure I've read or been told that the V6's got sold at a loss with the low production numbers. Not sure of £70K Shaun, was it not more like £50 to £60k...... Probably a myth.

Que Graeme.......

It certainly was not meant as just a PR exercise and would not have got the green light if it wasn't going to make money, but what we don't know is how many Renault needed to sell to break even and unless the Finance Director of Renault Paris or Project Director joins this forum we'll never know because there were no sales predictions made at the launch of the car. I'm sure the ph2 re-engineering expenses didn't help though!
Mind you, moving production to Dieppe would have saved paying TWR's profit margin so I think they probably did make money as Renault UK was never asked to take stock cars( which happens when the orders dry up but they don't want to slow the factory), the factory only built to order and there was always a waiting time so all those things say that production was not less than expected and it also did not finish until the last possible moment when the Clio III was introduced in summer 2006. so i'd take it with a pinch of salt any comments about huge losses. Small production runs can be cost effective if you use as many in house parts as possible as they did here.

Thanks for the response to my colour question.
I can see what renault were trying to do making it more upmarket.
Another great insight into the thinking behind the car.

Racing blue was too bright and not classy enough...

.....and then they gave us acid yellow instead, go figure

I really don't see the fascination with Racing Blue on a v6.. It really isnt a very flattering colour for a vee, lets face it.

:)

So no Racing Blue but primer grey was allowed... ;)

Its an acquired taste Lunar.... agreed. Much like a fine wine, appreciated only by those with sophistication and a learned pallet. :welcome:

^^^wonder how long it'd take to get a bite ;)

Tbh if a Lunar was available when I got mine it would've been my choice. For me the cars look the best in IB, MR and LG with lunar the added bonus of being super rare :)

I much prefer LG to any silver, but IB is my all time fave, shame we didn't still have it for our wedding (my dress was IB ;) ) would have loved to arrive in it! Had to survive in the rolls! ;)
