COIL FAILURES

Hi Matt,

Many thanks for the reply, Ill pop online and have a look around for some.

After I started the post, I went for a quick drive around the block and it's running as normal now, no misfiring or warning lights, would this still be the coil?

Regards

James.

Usually when a coil has gone, it's gone. People have had fuel pump and filter issues before. Could be that.

Hi Matt,

Many thanks again, hmm, most odd this, it seemed fine, I shall certainly purchase some coils I think though, and keep an eye on it.

I may take it somewhere to see if they could plug it in and see if it has left a fault code.

James.

Hi all,

Apologies for restarting the thread, Just a quick update, I took it in to my local Renault garage for them to plug it in,

They diagnosed misfires on 1, 5 and 6 requiring new coil packs and spark plugs at £650.. I said I would go and think about it,

I think I shall purchase a set online, not sure about the spark plugs though.

James.

Wowzers!
I think you could have just saved several years of membership by avoiding the dealer!

Time to befriend a local V6 owner to sort?

£650 for half-a-job is a lot.

Anyone on here will testify that 'when a coil goes' it is usually singular and a £25 part with an easy DIY.

For my £650, I would want V6 trophy coil conversion. : )

Kett, very true that, lots of membership saved there!

It was a bit of a shock when they said the price, your right as well, if I was spending the kind of money It would be going on the trophy coil conversion.

If I did get some online, Ive had a look at the guide, the front ones don't seem too bad, just the rear ones I'd be worried about (and I'm not the most mechanically minded..)

Christ on a bike!!! they must of priced at £650 as they dont want the work.

If you have some time and a basic tool kit you can do it yourself easily and at a snip of that cost.

Or, take it to SG motorsport if you dont want to do it yourself. :approve:

That is just a ridiculous price FFS !!! and for just changing only three - another classic example of why you shouldn't go to Renault but use a specialist for any work on a Vee

Are there any new suppliers or part numbers that anyone knows of to get coils?

Just asking as any relevant posts I've come across seem to be several years old.
I have a temeperamental coil issue but am heading off on a roadtrip shortly so want to take two new ones just in case....

As above. Going to replace all six as I have something weird going on. Potentially multiple failures. Anyone know which ones to get and where to get them?

Guys. Have you checked the KB. The reference numbers are in there, as well as a note on which ones "seem" to be the more reliable.

Sorry can't link direct as on my mobile.

I got last couple from GSF who had them in stock locally.

Matt, ever thought of getting Trophy coils, especially if you are looking to replace all 6 of them? A bit tricky to deal with but if you are fluent in French, or know someone who is, then Migny-Courses may be worth a try. I note that the price of a coil has doubled since I got mine! Still worth it though.

Yeah had had a look but just wondered as prices are completely different now (eg. GSF now charge £46.21) , some suppliers no longer stock parts now (Andrew Page LTD for example) etc.
Just wondered if any new suppliers had popped up on the radar or if there was somewhere better to get them.
