COIL FAILURES

No new manufacturers as far as I'm aware. Still Sagem and Valeo. I'm sure there are some non-brand types around (as with almost everything) but that would be a bit of a gamble.

Excuse me for asking, but wouldn't it be easier to buy a diagnostics tool so you can read out what coil is wrong?
I have no knowledge of repairing a Clio as I'm looking to buy one now, but i do own a Smart Roadster Brabus and a Mercedes diagnostics tool. There I can read out all the error codes and also get tips on how to fix a problem.
It might be illegal to discuss this in some forums, but I don't say you have to buy a China copy Renault diagnostics to find out what the problem is.

If you have one, and it's to hand when it's needed that's great ... But if you don't then knowing how to diagnose and repair is also a good position to be in ... Many owners have done this whilst on a drive ... also carrying spare coils and a suitable socket is a sensible idea whether you fit it yourself or get the breakdown fella to do it ...

But will a standard OBD wifi/bluetooth reader be able to find which one it is? Those you can just have in your glovebox and connect it to your phone when you need to use it.

I bought a fairly unsophisticated OBD II scanner (around £20) some time back thinking it might help pinpoint which of the coils had failed, it merely reported P0300 - "Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected", not terribly helpful. Shortly after that I joined this forum. The scanner did however pay for itself when it help to diagnose my Megane going into limp mode, a glow plug fault.
