Clutch Pedal Vibration

Hi folks,

Took the v6 out this morning and knew something was wrong straight away. Symptoms are as follows -

Vibration from clutch pedal just before the top of travel, only when in gear, doesn't happen when I'm stationary (in neutral). Pedal goes all the way to the floor and the gears engage cleanly, but vibrates just at the bite point where you are getting on the power.

Second thing is a noise from behind me (engine bay). I can't really describe it...but it's new and wasn't there last night. Seems to only happen when I put the engine under load, for example 50mph in 6th gear and press the throttle on a bit. I suppose you say where it 'struggles'.

There also seems to be a rattle when I switch the engine off.

I'm thinking perhaps an engine mount? But which one? How could I diagnose it? And could I change it myself with fairly limited tools (hand tools, jack, axle stands...no access to a lift).

Any thoughts?

Thanks
John

Sometimes nobody knows the answer! My only observation is that I'm not aware of other people having engine mounts going so it's not a common fault it that is the cause.

I'm a guilty party as well, read the post but didn't know the answer, thought no point in posting if you can't help [smilie=icon_eek.gif]

So the vibration is at the bite point and not continously through the pedal? How many miles has the car done on the clutch? Have you noticed it's been using more oil recently? If you look under the car is there any oil around the bottom of the bell housing? Is there plenty of fluid in the reservoir?

You should be able to detect a failing engine mount by potentially greatly increased noise and with the covers off substantial movement when you come on and off the accelerator pedal. You can see the mounts with the covers off with the exception of the lower dogbone mount which you will need to take the undertray off (as you will also need to do to check for oil around the bottom of the bellhousing).

Is the car "struggling" all the time or only after it's warmed up? Are you still on the original coils and plugs?

Loads of questions because your post is basically describing multiple "faults" and we need more information to help (if we can)

That would be the flywheel cover rubbing on the exhaust and/or the breather pipe. Sorry for the *VERY* late reply, only found this because I was looking for other clutch related stuff.
