Clown Car

Well I took the plunge and bought it at a price of £100 and adjusting the sellers brake shoes on his mk 1 clio. He was askin £300 so it would seem a bargain with 5 months MOT. Unfortunatly things are never that simples!

I've titled it clown car because the way that soon as i tried to move it it fell apart ha ha.

I knew it had an electrical fault which may or may not be an easy fix and the cat is rattly but it was my understanding that that was all was wrong. The deal was done i handed over the cash had a poke about behind the fuse box to get it running (this is the fault that needs fixing, will post when i get it apart to find the problem) and went to leave. The car had other ideas, the shoes where stuck to the drums where it been sat up since xmas, i give it some abuse and they released, in my experience this may be a sign the linings will seperate soon tho :( then the cat rattle turned into a cat rattle and an exhaust hitting the rear beam rattle, then i hit a small bump and the OSR knocked like a bitch, every little bump, i think its got a snapped shock I've seen that on meganes a few times. then after about half a mile it cut down on to 2 cylinders and wouldn't idle which wasn't great as the battery is iffy and its an auto so i won't be bump starting it if the battery dies. At this point i parked it up and phoned a friend.

I have a spare K7M engine in my workshop so i got a lift up there and nicked the coil for 1+4 which I'd diagnosed as the problem and a nasty little tyre inflator that plugs in the cigar lighter plug as the NSF tyre was almost flat. Fitted the coil and it now ran properly if rattly, got under the back and repositioned the exhaust, it seems to just be loose so hopefully an easy fix, the cat will have its inners removed and I'll forget it til MOT time. plugged in the inflator and left the tyre pumping up while my friend went to get some fuel. By this time it was dark so when we where ready to go i switched the lights on but there once again where no electrics :x more poking and the lights come on and i decided to just go for it quick as poss before anymore disasters occured!

Once on the go it actually drove really nice If i ignored the rattling and knocking. The brakes where suprisingly good, the engine is fairly responsive though the auto box seems to bog it down a bit. apart from the repairs i also think a good service is in order. One item of concern was on hard acceleration there is a noise coming from the box i think? Sounds exactly like when you got a split boost pipe on a turbo engine like a rushing air noise? Bit odd, if anyone could shed any light on this it'd be good.

Dunno what I'll do with it when its done? Be a good family wagon, but its an auto and she aint keen. Keep me out of trouble for a few weekends tho, too bigger bargain not to buy.

update 13.02.10
Well the clown car theme continues, decided to take it to my workshop to give it a good once over and on the way there it shed its alternator belt! and the exhaust almost fell off completely.

First job was to fit a belt off my spare engine, only to find it was covered in oil and completely shagged, but it did the job til i got a new one on it earlier. also discovered the OSF engine mount was broken so fitted one of them off the spare engine, where the mount was broken and the engine was moving about it had smashed the multiplug connector onto the stepper motor so i spliced the one off the spare engine on and it ran alot better, also found the engine oil to be way over the maximum mark so drained a good 2 litres off to get it right, not keen on the oil that come out so today i also changed the oil + filter.

All the cat heat sheilds where rattling so i removed them, sounds ok now, so on to the exhaust, removed the rear silencer, found a half decent sleve knocking about so cleaned up the pipe ends and fitted it, happy with the results too it worked a treat. Found the OSR shock had snapped the top off as expected so replaced with new. All taxed and in use now, so today decided to have a look at the Laguna, the NS outer CV joint was broken, when i unclipped the boot the joint fell off and the balls went everywhere, new outer joint £35 from euro car parts complete with gaitor. Sam aint keen on the Scenic or the Laguna so When the Laguna's fixed I'm gonna clean them both up and bang em on ebay to fund another F7R coupe i hope, so if anyone knows of a good one at a decent price? Any meg coupe really......

Sorry for the lack of pics, all been a bit of a hurry.

costs so far:
car £100
shock (bilstein) £35
assorted parts £30
tax (6months) £104

Gotta be worth £500 notes surely with 5 months MOT and 6 months Tax?

Na i aint keen either lol. I put a gearbox in that, its my mates car. Quite frankly its an embarrasment but she loves it ha ha.

well yeah just as long as it's a girl driving that dont think any1 on here would drive a pink 19 i know i would'nt hell no......

personally i would not although I saw a french PH2 Cabby in pink before and the other half was mad into it, personally if it was in my driveway it would have to be covered up at all times.
