After spending a good few years researching the trophy cars and race history, I am totally fascinated by these cars and wanted to experience owning one.
I have been in contact with numerous owners and found one in France that was for sale. A deal was done and I brought it into the UK this morning!!
Its in pretty much the same condition as it was in its last known race in the trophy series in 2001 wearing most of its livery. It wears it race scars with pride and the marks will not be recommissioned (with the exception of repairing and replacing whats needed) as these are part of its history.
Updated photos July 2015:
The race history is currently partially known, but is something im working on, i currently understand it raced in the 1999, 2000 & 2001 series.
It was owned by Italian racing team doors engineering (1999 & 2000), who later became Sitec Motorsport (2001).
Doors Engineering won the championship in 2000 with driver Luca Rangoni, who went on to win the series every year following.
Rangoni's car:
Car [v6plaque]19[/v6plaque] is in original 2001 season condition, bearing most of its livery with matching plaque numbers (on both chassis and dash).
It is luminous yellow inside and out as per the teams 2000/2001 series colours (in 2000, they ran with green head lights in 2001 they ran with red head lights).
The vehicle has been used sparingly and well maintained post trophy. The cambelt was last changed in 2013. The Sadev gearbox was fully refurbished in Jan 2015.
It wears original Cromodora race wheels which are un-refurbished.
The car has a series of spare panels, including door, bumper, bonnet and wings.
Clio v6 trophy chassis [v6plaque]19[/v6plaque] Race History:
chassis [v6plaque]19[/v6plaque] was raced by Andrea Belicchi in the 2001 trophy series as race number [v6plaque]63[/v6plaque] for Sitec Motorsport. Belicchi took part in a hand full of races that season due to other racing commitments, but yet, still finished 14th overall.
Andrea Belicchi was one of the front runners in the 1999 series, finishing second overall.
He also won the final series of the Renault Spider trophy, racing for Doors Engineering with same livery the teams clio trophy's wore in the 2000 series.
After racing in the clio trophy, he went on to race in the porsche supercup and then more recently racing LMP1 in the Le mans 24 series.
This very car finished 6th at Monza 25th March 2001, raced by Belicchi:
[bbvideo=560,315]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXtN_JS-RaI[/bbvideo]
and also raced in qualifying at Monaco in 2001 with Belicchi qualifying on pole for race 1.
It raced at Misano on the 8th of July.
[bbvideo=560,315]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0yw3dWbwtw[/bbvideo]
Then finished 8th at Magny Cours 29th July, after qualifying in 20th place.

It raced at Assen 12th August, getting a good start, but spun off on the first lap:
[bbvideo=560,315]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXsX73r5k0I[/bbvideo]
The car still bears the [v6plaque]6[/v6plaque] but the previous owner peeled the 3s off as [v6plaque]6[/v6plaque] is his lucky number. It wears its battle scars with pride, albeit it, with a new bonnet, drivers side wing and bumper. I have spent a lot of time studying the cars and have multiple evidence that [v6plaque]19[/v6plaque] is the same car Belicchi raced in 2001.
Post trophy:
Sitec Motorsport had about 4 trophy cars at the end of 2001, it is understood that after/towards the end of the season, the race team was liquidated and the stock was auctioned off.
[v6plaque]19[/v6plaque] ended up in France till April 2015, it was owned/driven by a father (and sons) at track days along with his two other Scitec trophy cars.
What now:
Well my intension is to learn everything I can from the car.
I would then like to replace the missing 3 digits so it fully looks how it did in 2001. There are a few bits that need re-attaching and a chip in the windscreen which needs attention, a bit of thought on the tyres and getting two seats in it and Scott will give it some mechanical attention before track work. It will otherwise mostly stay as is.
It will stay as a circuit only car and will not be converted to get and get it on the road. It is too original to play with. It will not be modified, maybe with the exception of some sort of bolt on silencer to get it on track as its pretty loud!
I hope to be able to take it out on some circuits and it experience it first-hand.
Yes, it is going towards Goodwood for Origine RS, this will likely be the only meet it attends this year due to other commitments, so get yourself along if you want to see it!
My first impression from it is its completely crazy. It’s quite intimidating compared to the road car and I'm under no illusions, that the car is far more capable than I am as a driver.
Apart from the shape and engine layout out, pretty much everything else is different. It’s a whole other level in terms of noise and violence! The ultimate expression of the Clio range and the one of the maddest creations to leave Dieppe.
I am going to start documenting the car, what I unearth about its history and any work undertaken.
