Aircon is a separate system from the thermostat. The thermostat regulates engine temp, and sits in a housing on the gearbox side of the engine. You'll need to elaborate on what you are trying to do/fix/what the issues are?
Aircon chills the air into the cabin
Thermostat regulates engine coolant temp, coolant is what heats the heater matrix that heats the air coming into the cabin.
I’ve recently had the main and auxiliary belts replaced, along with pumps. The fuel tanks sender unit was dismantled & rebuilt among some other things.
When the car was inspected, other than noting a couple of lights being out, and some corrosion in areas, one of the comments was “A/C not working, needs a thermostat”.
Beyond that I’m not sure what was meant by it, as you can tell I’m not that mechanical!
You'll have to speak to the garage and clarify, this could be 2 statements...
A/C not working
/AND/
Needs a thermostat
This would make more sense to me (and I had the exact same 2 issues on my Clio V6!)
If it needs a thermostat as a separate item to the AC issue then you will need to change the thermostat and the rubber sealing ring it sits in in the housing, the rubber is what goes off and doesnt seal properly and the engine runs too cool. I changed the one on my own V6 a few years back, I had to source the part from Citroen as Renault list it as NLA.
This is the thermostat
Housing
Rubber seal thing, was hard to get out
New stat assembled
The housing seal is Renault p/n 9616838180 but thats NLA, but p/n 1340 42 available from Citroen dealers for £18 will work.
Thermostat itself is p/n 9617028380. You will need both.
