Classic car insurance

R

RenoStimpy

Hi all, I'm after a bit of help insurance wise, had a quick search but can find the answers, basically I have traders insurance, 7yrs NCB now, gone to renew it this year and apart from rise again this year! I told them I have moved 1.5 miles down the road, they came back to me with this: because of my new postcode it's going from ?650 to ?1050, I can't justify this but feel stuck as I can't transfer my traders NCB to private insurance.
Does anyone now if you can get classic insurance on the 21 with it being your only car, or is there another solution?
Grateful for any info as it runs out tomorrow :(

Cheers Kai and Bella (otherwise known as Bogie)

Mines on a classic policy no, no-claims but limited mileage. Give Lancaster a call see what they can do. Or try houghton they've been giving good deals to club members.

Hic insure mine on classic policy, limited miles, mods declared, mirrored NCB and lots of other goodies

i went with classicline this year ?200.and forty something pence. they didnt want my no claims so they are holding mine for me incase i need it for something else :thumb:

These are brilliant, cheers il try them tomorrow.
As for mods declared, how far do you go, is being slighty loose with the truth a false economy?

Cheers Kai

Because they've put it up so much, if I can get classic for anything less then I'm saving, I am still working on getting the trade insurance down

I've just paid ?155.00 or so for a classic policy - 12 months, fully comp, ?100 excess, 3,000 miles per year......it also covers me to drive to work (if i so wish).......traders policy is only useful if you drive loads of different cars - Sibley's only got a traders as he's always breaking down/crashing/loosing his cars......:fish:

I was with HIC until renewal this year, They still gave a very good quote but check their charges when you get renewal through, they wanted ?46 for setting up the policy with a different insurer plus a ?30 charge for renewing with them!! Cheeky buggers ?76 in charges!!!! Went back to A Plan in Thatcham in the end who not only beat their quote but only charged a ?9 set up fee and have a lower windscreen excess to boot. I have a 5000 mile policy with mods declared. Off top of my head think I paid about ?250 in the end fully comp, protected no claims.

Oh I definitely shop around when renewal comes round, cheers for the heads up

Dan ,

FWIW I found very little difference ( around ?50 ) insuring my old 21t as a classic vs a normal policy. Best bit is the normal policy earns NCB ..

so does my classic policy so I'm not complaining

plus your old as fook! :becky:

CI would check your classic policy mate. NCB isnt normally accrued on it.

I am only a few years older than you Dan me Lad.

You're correct Andy, my no claims are not included or topped up with my classic policy - Houghton's adviced me to stick with it for the year & then change to a standard policy - i have full no claims but as i also have a company car i need to keep them going in case my circumstances change.....

You got me worried now lol, will check tomorrow iicba..

When I had my HIC 'classic' policy it did accrue no claims, i went from 9 to 10 years... Not that it makes much difference!! My current policy with A Plan is a normal policy but limited mileage so I still keep accruing no claims.
