CL10 CYA Rebuild

Now that the engine is turning over, I thought best to start thread for the car

I bought the car in October as a non-runner and has been left in a garage for 4 years
the car had some kind of electrical fault that prevented the car cranking and the Imob light would not clear

Some people might recognize the car from back in the day when Shakey's Laboratory built the car back in 2013 I think

After several months of trying to sort this electrical issue, we traced the problem back to a voltage drop across the CAN bus network. We were almost giving up when we called in an auto electrician. The issue was identified within two hours, and the engine sprang to life. The electrician connected a 12V jumper to supply power to the ECU. We still need to determine whether the problem lies with a faulty UPC or with the wiring on the network.

Now onto the good stuff!

The engine is scheduled to come out this week for a clean-up, and the wiring loom needs to be either replaced or sorted out.

The fuel system was originally secured with small self-tapping screws, but these have now been replaced with M6 bolts.

I’ve also decided to reinstall the entire interior while I’m at it. The car will be used for the track, but I still want to keep it roadworthy for the occasional school run and the odd blast

I’m currently waiting for a fuel pump cover plate from SW Motorsport, which should complete the rear section. I have a pristine set of yellow dot Recaro seats that came with the car, but I'm undecided about whether to reinstall them or switch to bucket seats with harnesses and a half cage. I want to get everything finished before making that choice, but I'm always on the lookout for options - I do really like the Sabelt GT3 Capture.webp

I spent a few days working on the car last week. The engine is out, and I'm feeling overwhelmed by the wiring loom.
The engine also needs a thorough cleaning.
While I was still waiting for parts, I took the opportunity to scrub the engine bay and the underside clean in preparation for the rebuild.
My plan is as follows:
1 Steam clean the engine
2. Paint (waiting to decide on a color, probably black)
3. Replace the belts
4. Perform a full service
5. Heat wrap the manifold

coming along. did you manage to find out the issue with the non cranking? what's the plans? cleaning underneath too.... you make me sick 😆 my cars lucky i dont hit it with a sponge when it rains

copy & paste from the problem shooting thread I posted

**Update:**In case anyone comes across this in the future:
I called an auto electrician, and he identified the fault in less than two hours.

The ECU was not receiving power from the UPC. He connected a wire to the side of a relay in the UPC and supplied 12 volts to it. This cleared the immobilizer issue and allowed the car to crank.
He could not determine whether the fault was in the UPC or the wiring. It was close to his finishing time, and with the garage temperature around -3 degrees, we decided to stop for the day. He created a temporary fix to allow the car to start for now.

It was definitely worth bringing in an expert, and the total cost was £75.

need to sort this mess of a fuel pump out and find a way to get the fuel lines through the cover plate and look good
