chassis protection

The T.I.B.

is rarely serious
hey just after some advice if anyone has experience.

i'm cleaning down my subrame, the engine bay and inner arches etc. can anyone recommend any protection for these bits? i'm thinking of some kind of chassis paint (?) on the subby, not sure what to use inside the arches though.

thanks! 8)

i just left the arches alone on mine. There was no rust so I didnt want to disturb what was there, it's obviously been working for the last 16 years!

there's a the tiny patch or 2 of rust which will get the wire wheel/kurust treatment. also the usual random spots of rust around any holes in the bay/slam panel etc so it'll all get removed (cosmetic reasons only if i'm honest)

theres a random bit of paint on one side that you can make out in this rather poor picture, the black bit. i'm wondering if someone's been there before and done half a job.

I don't blame him... tis a mint motor.

I'm with Neal for the inner arches - i'm debating about doign it myself to the tourer. I just don't know if I can bring myself to lose the unpainted arches and hide all that seam welding :S

Wow, not messing about are you
The idea is, since i already have to take the engine out, to replace any wear components I can think of whilst i'm at it, hence the steering rack bushes (pulled them out saturday, they look ok-ish but i'll be replacing the one on your advice), lower ball joints, TREs, ARB bushes, along with a general cleanup.

So now i've got the bay and the subby completely clear I need to crack on with things.

On the plus side, this car seems really easy to work on, hardly had a stuck bolt or any unpleasant surprises yet!
