Changing gearbox in R19

Can it be done with engine still in the bay?

I can lower the subframe if necessary.

What needs to be done?

Release front engine brackets, both driveshafts out, lowering subframe, gb out?

can do it without lowering the subframe.

gearbox link rod, clutch cable, drain box, driveshafts, speedo cable, take the CAS off so it doesn't get damaged, starter, if airbox still there airbox bracket, reverse light switch, all the bolts/nuts (note the short studs into the box will most likely come out attached to the nuts) except one or 2 up top

Remove the rear mount bracket, undo the 16mm nuts and the 18mmnut so its the bolts holding it in, then undo the front gearbox mount, both on the subframe and the box, you'll need to spanner the box side. then lift the box off the front mount, I generally use a prybar lift out the front mount, put it back down then remove the rear bolts off the rear subframe, the bracket will be loose, pull the box forward and the bracket will drop out the bottom. Then stick a jack under the sump, use a bit of wood or rubber pad though. Then undo the other bolts and the box will pull out, no mounts aside from the engine mount means theres plenty of room to swing things about

I have probably missed something out. Might be an idea to remove the radiator in case it gets damaged etc,

So does this information also include the R19 16V? I asked the same question in last year and everybody told me that I will have to take the engine out aswell.

its a lot easier on the 16V to pull the engine out.

it can be done but you will have to jack the engine off its mount and move the engine right over so its touching the chassis rail and you should get enough room at the other side to pivot the box up.

if you drop the subframe theres enough room and its easier.

I done it the same way as Chris suggested, but like a lot of people who have done it that route, thinking removing the engine might have been an easier option, unless you dont have an engine hoist to hand.
