Hi , took the vee out yesterday and noticed that when i changed DOWN into 3rd gear it felt very clonky even with the clutch right to the floor. it would go into 3rd but just didnt feel quite right. all the others seemed fine changing up and down just 3rd from any thing gear higher. any thoughts ?? linkage adjustment ? thanks

Sounds like a 3rd gear syncro to me. If it were a linkage or clutch fault the chances are it would effect all gears. I had exactly the same problem with mine and just lived with it until it started popping out third and eventually heavily damaging the rest of the 'box. Something i wouldnt advise doing now things are harder to find.

i did think it might be a syncro problem but it hasnt happened at all today. will have to investigate by driving more in the lovely sunshine :) . the gear box has always felt very good and precise as is the rest of the car so i will keep an eye on it !!
thanks buddy

had a full service , belts changed all fluids changed with water pump too last year that cleared my wallet out so fluids should be all good :)
the gear box is allways a litle stiff when cold but i am gentle with it going through the gears before i set off and warmed up. just a bit suprised it felt different as my vee is well looked after !! just one of those things i guess. will get it on a ramp and have a good look :)

Hi ,ive had similar with my clio since i had engine out to do belts and changed all the fluids .The only thing i can put it down to is the viscosity of the new gear oil slowing the syncro's down when cold . Once its warmed up it ok and its getting better as it gets used more .The only other thing i was going to do if i get p****d off with it is change the oil to a racing gear oil eg millers or redline .

Forget your racing oils. It wants to be the genuine stuff reno filled it with as its very specific on what it works best with. Doesnt take much to feck the syncros anyway.
